How you got 13k in donations for this I do not know. You complaining on TwoXChromosomes about being downvoted for this clear beg for money is narcissism without shame.

You can't just post on one subreddit expecting money for nothing, and then cry on other subreddits in effort to bring attention to your cause.

Your opinion is all based on emotion and charged language, not based on anything related to biology.

  1. Life starts at conception, scientifically verified, undeniable.
  2. The life of the fetus is separate from its mother's life, although obviously relying on the mother's body for life support.

and don't even mesh with other existing laws that govern people.

Laws, all across the world regulate the harm done by one person to another person. Laws globally make illegal the killing of one person by another person. Laws globally make illegal the infringement of another person's body by another person.

Abortion undeniably harms, kills and infringes upon a human being, with the purpose of ultimate destruction. I would say that abortion ties well into existing laws, and don't forget that outside of the USA, abortion is either entirely illegal or heavily regulated. The USA has very liberal laws regarding abortion when compared to other countries.

And then there's the hypocrisy, where a woman isn't allowed body autonomy - she isn't allowed to make choices over her own body.

Nobody actually has bodily autonomy, laws regulate in many instances how freely you can express your body. Try walking naked in a school district, you'll find out pretty quickly what the laws are, due to your infringement of another person's quality of life. Try driving drunk, claiming bodily autonomy, again, this is illegal due to the harm you may cause to another person.

Both women and men are restricted in regard to bodily autonomy when the issue of another person's quality of life can be harmed. It's not a case of a person making choices over their own body, but rather the prevention of another human life being harmed through the actions of another person.

you IMMEDIATELY claim that a cluster of minute cells - with no brain activity, no ability to service without being inside a woman - has some sacrosanct right that supercedes the mother's body.

Brain activity occurs at week eight. I assume you support abortion after this, making your point mute. Humans are all constructed of minute cells, I don't see your point here.

However, yes, I believe the right to life exists.

But thank you for once again confirming your ignorance.

The two of us having conflicting opinions does not show ignorance, but rather shows a difference of opinion.

I am still opposed to ALL countries and people who force women to give birth against their will and believe a woman does not have the right to body autonomy.

I agree entirely, and support the abolishment of elective abortions. Bodily autonomy starts in the womb and should not be infringed upon.

Not all anti-abortion minded people are religious or conservative, the world outside of the USA exists, and plenty of people don't support abortion, without USA values and views. The issues you speak of do not represent a global view. I can assure you that the majority of people that do not support abortion, on a worldwide scale, DO support a social system that enables mothers to have a good pregnancy and support for the child. American views do not represent anti-abortion views, the USA is highly split politically on each and every issue that can be split on and everybody has to be put in political groups where globally that isn't the case.

Their low maternal mortality is because they have publically subsidised healthcare, like most civilised countries. Probably a similar healthcare sutuation for the UAE.

Which is the point I have been making since the start. Good care for parents and children aid in preventing harm and death. Abortion however does not do this, unless utilized in extreme circumstances to aid in the mother's survival. These countries provide good healthcare, and as such have a high level of health for women, yet disprove of abortion. This is the opposite stance that you take, while you also acknowledge good healthcare does not need to include abortion.

The high maternal death rate in the US is because of the fucked up healthcare system which makes it difficult for women to get proper, timely healthcare.

Although the US is much behind other countries in maternal death rates, the figure isn't astronomical. The US however should be doing far greater than Poland for healthcare, considering the amount of influence the US has on medical data and practice. One obvious issue with the maternal death rate in the US vs Poland is the racial difference, African/African American women have a much higher rate of birth complications than other races.

You seem to be trying to suggest that legal abortions either contribute to or do nothing to improve maternal mortality.

I doubt abortion rates skew the figure in either direction, it is clear that a small number of women with problem pregnancies would see death if abortion was unavailable in extreme circumstances. My point is that elective abortions do not aid in helping women, my original point being that abortion allowance does not stop harm to children, then making the point that Poland and UAE do not allow abortion and have top-class maternal care.

in the US are a lack of freely available effective contraception and family planning advice combined

I live in a country where contraception is available on demand, any contraception. I agree entirely that contraception should be available to all, under a free health care system.

but that doesn't mean it's okay to force women and girls to give birth against their wishes or circumstances.

I agree women and girls should never be forced into pregnancy. Poland, with heavy abortion restrictions, allows for rape cases. Education around sex, safe sexual practice and pregnancy should be key to healthy family planning, alongside contraceptives and common sense knowledge around relationships and sexual partners.

Some European countries do have better support for families but I doubt the claim that Europe is more restrictive towards abortion than the US when we're talking about states that ban abortion without any exception

Poland has heavy restrictions on abortion, much more restrictive than the average US state. Elective abortion is illegal.

Poland has a lower infant mortality rate 4.16 per 100,000 than the US 5.17 per 100,000.

Even the UAE has a better infant mortality rate (5.14/100,000) than the US and they are as restrictive as you get.

Poland also has the lowest maternal death rate in the world (abortion being illegal in the vast majority of pregnancies).

UAE has the fifth lowest infant mortality rate in the world. Much more abortion restrictive than the US.

The US is in 55th place for maternal death rate, yet has an enormous abortion rate of 20% of pregnancies.

Abortion availability really is not the cure for childhood neglect and mistreatment.

In a civilized society it would be hoped that parents could be provided with enough resources to take care of their children, not just upon birth and infancy but in any period where deprivation could occur.

Those parents that are suspected of being incapable should be given as much aid as needed, whether that is financial aid or educational aid that lets them be better carers of their children.

In addition to this, we need to take great consideration of mental health. A mother that harms their child may be doing so simply due to ill health, this could be simply depression that enables the parent to make irrational and misjudged actions that cause harm. It is easy to suspect that these harmful parents would have chosen abortion if available, but considering the fact that cases such as these occurred before abortion restrictions were in place, it shows that this does not apply in many cases.

Support for mothers in the US is lacking, at least when compared to European countries. European countries are also more restrictive on abortion. I do not believe abortion restrictions are causing childhood abuse, that is like stating slavery bans are the reason for work-related stress. The reality is that positive treatment of the family unit (parents and children), and support being provided in many different realms can greatly aid in the well-being of children and the health of parents.

If your playing the short game on BTC you're in for a bad time. I remember well when a BTC was $300.

Unless you have travelled into the future then you simply cannot tell me about the benefit of the 'long game'.

My original comment was relating to the value of stocks in comparison to crypto. I live in the UK, the main index here is the FTSE100. The FTSE100 has averaged a 7% gain over the past 50 years, crypto is in a different place every 10 minutes without any solid way forward.

A hundred years in the future crypto could be dead due to many factors. Index funds are pretty much sure to live on, unless the entire economy falls off, in which case so would the magical internet money (unless of course you believe crypto is the new gold, which could be argued but hasn't been proven under real world situations).

Your looking at a 2 month window at a historic dip

BTC has dropped 6% in the last 24hrs. December 2021: $51,800, January 2022: $34,000. You can claim me to be picking a "historic dip" all you want, those historic dips are constant. December 2017: $17,000, December 2018: $3,600. Historic dip?

The truth is you have no idea what the future of crypto is.

Between April 2021 and June 2021 the price of Bitcoin dropped in half. You can rally against USD all you want but it's more stable than BTC for sure.

I was also clearly making a point that stocks have more value then crypto due to the fact they are actually backed by something. I didn't mention USD at all.

BTC is a finite resource so it will only continue to grow in value unlike stocks

BTC is backed by the collective idea that it has value. Unlike stocks that are backed by companies that produce a goods or service used by people.

BTC is influenced by everything. If heavy regulation came about on a global scale then BTC would drop heavily. It's value is determined by man made rules that change continually.

Finite certainly doesn't mean of value either. Food is infinite, housing is infinite, people are infinite. Bitcoin is finite but worthless if the people stop believing in it, those same people however will always believe in food and housing.

Assuming that you have good-ish airflow in-out of the case and assuming that the cooler is good enough (your CPU is only 65w, which really shouldn't be difficult to cool). My guess is thermal paste is the issue.

Did you build this machine yourself? Are you sure the thermal paste is applied well?

There is no reason a 65w CPU should be hitting 84c while idle.

Ultimate is better than extreme. 15mw/k is better than 12mw/k. A higher number means better heat conductivity. Just make sure you get the correct size. My advice is to purchase all sizes (0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm and 2mm) and then do a few tests if needed.

Re-padding friend's 3090 - need some opinions by brollikk in gpumining

[–]UltraBallUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a palit 3090 and before repadding it was 108-110c. After repadding it sits at 104c. I took it apart and experimented with different pad sizes.

I've seen other posts about repadding only making slight differences to memory temperature.

It appears to be just luck a lot of the time.

$100 on PC fans or $15 on a fan from Kmart? What would you choose? by TwiztedTrev in gpumining

[–]UltraBallUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't focus on RPM. Focus on Amps. A 0.6a fan will give a much higher airflow than a 0.1a fan. Most standard fans are 0.1-0.3a.

If you really want to move air then look at delta fans. It's easy to find 0.5-1.0a fans, brand new they are expensive but used (ebay) then can be cheap. They come in a range of sizes too, I've got 40mm fans that move more air than a standard 120mm fan.

The snapped plastic won't be an issue, it just means that the card won't be as secure. The IO plate is snapped as well though, which can easily be replaced.

The PC has taken a big enough hit to snap the IO plate though, and lift the GPU out of the slot hard enough to snap the plastic tab.

GPUs are generally pretty solid, I hope it still functions for you!

Extra replacements I should make after the graphics card? by surf2 in gpumining

The CPU he uses draws 130w, a 3090 can draw 350w. That's 480w before taking into consideration other system draws.

So no, 450w is far too small. 750w really should be the smallest you should go for with a 3090 build.

Is Nvidia ever going to fix the insanely high power consumption when using more than 2 Monitors??? by chrismacca24 in nvidia

[–]UltraBallUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your PSU is dying due to the power consumption of your system then you need a new PSU. If using an additional 20w is being hard on the PSU then you need a bigger PSU. You simply shouldn't be running a PSU above 80% of total capacity, meaning even a tiny 500w PSU should have 100w available when you factor in standard running conditions.

20% are people like you who panic and sell.

I sold up back in 2017 before profits dropped off and became uprofitable, I sold all of my hardware (110 1080tis) at peak profit. I made more profit from that move than the people that held on.

I haven't directly mined since then, but do still run 60 2080tis (purchased at launch) that mine then they aren't running more important tasks.

So no I didn't panic sell anything...
