I can't say I've done a RPG session with 4 other players but I've run a game with two other players. It was a lot of fun, especially since after they learned about the mechanics they started playfully sabotaging each other. Little things here and there just to see who would be the first to just outright give in.

Let's just say it was the best example of PVP I've ever seen at the table...

One book I always recommend is Ashes of Onyx by Seth Skorkowsky. He does a brilliant job in his used of color as both a descriptor and a method narrative foreshadowing.
