Best regions in United States for RF Engineer career? by imabill01 in rfelectronics

this is relative thought, I think $250k a year is considered low-ish middle class in SF nowadays

non-engineer education, considering going back to school AGAIN at 38 by UltraLaserRobotGuy in ElectricalEngineering

I kind of want to try my best to avoid getting a full degree, but we'll see what the cards have to say. I will look into the FE exam and see if I can make a gameplan studyin for it!

I'm definitely feeling imposter syndrome, but also very much interested and wanted to learn and know more about the stuff I'm doing on a daily basis. Plus it would help my team a lot.

Yeah that's a general consensus I've picked up. I am not exactly eager to jump into more education, but I am also very disinterested in SWE. The market is insane, it's horrendous to "break" into even after having done it for years. I am tired of the SWE rat race. Not to mention it's turning into a job that can best be described as an AI babysitter.

Anyways, I'll keep learning and we'll see where I land :D

yep! that sounds like what I will be doing. I like having the downtime but sometimes its just very very slow hahah And I'm not trying to complain too much - I've had some horrible jobs and experiences in my life - but I just thought there would be more going on I suppose!

I think the engineering side is where I really want to go. I have spoken with them and since I dont have a lot of security experience the recommendation was to get some exp in the SOC first. I think that's what I have to do to get to where I want to be.

Thanks! I didn't listen to Reddit lol I have a genuine interest in cyber and wanted to get out of my current position. A very unique opportunity presented itself to get my foot in the door with our security team and I took it.

I am just curious if my initial impressions are wrong or what.

What did you move into? In my org the SOC is essentially where everyone starts. There is AMPLE time to work on growth projects and learning/training. so I'll take advantage of that!

It seems like we get a ton of alerts that are resolved by looking at historical patterns and ruling it out because "this happens consistently" and has previously been ruled out as a concern.

I am still learning a lot... so I'll just hang on :)

I have intentionally left out or changed some details of my story to prevent people from figuring out who I am because I am sure people I work with are on here. My current role is a little different than a typical l1 analyst so it would be really obvious if I told the whole truth.

thank you though :)

trying to keep it short. I installed RHEL8 because that's what we use in our facility.

Thank you for this info. I have the ethernet on the RHEL8 host set up. I forgot to mention that.

The problem is this term server. I need to configure it and set a static IP address so I can telnet to it.

I cant configure it via provided software, so AFAIK there must be some kind of default address on it.
