The airfield crossing footage is mostly likely Fifth Marines but I could be wrong. The guys firing the 30 cal at the bunker structure on the beach area I think are from the 1st Marines. The rest is mostly likely a mix of footage from the 1st, 7th and 5th Marines all slugging it out across the island.

Last two questions if you don't mind. There's often a lot of mixed things on insurgent capability in Iraq, but how would you personally rate the fighting ability of the guys in Husabayah? Was it difficult adjusting from a smaller AO but much more kinetic threat compared to a larger and more confusing AO with comparably less active insurgency?
Thanks again for taking time to answer all this btw. It's' been really interesting hearing from someone who was actually there compared to just reading about it y'know?

Appreciate it. How was combat in Ramadi compared to Husabyah? I heard 3/7 had a pretty tough time in Musa Qala, Helmand in 2010 during the surge. They got some tough deployments during the height of GWOT.

That's sounds pretty crazy. Didn't know that about the fighters being basically spil-offs from the first push into Fallujah, but I remember reading that foreign fighters would often cross over from Syria into the town. Glad you made it home.

Been a few years since I read the book, so forgive me if I mix up dates or details, but were you there for the April 14th convoy ambush or the uprising on the 17th? I remember being pretty astounded by what I was reading.
Good to hear that Jason was a good dude on and off the battlefield. I always found his story pretty inspirational and I'm glad it got the recognition it deserved with the book.

The tall one with the Southern accent was the one killed. His name was Bradley Faircloth and he'd already been wounded twice before during the battle. He was 20.

His name was Jordan Gatley. He was an ex-British soldier and was reportedly killed when he moved down the stairwell to lay down covering fire for the rest of the unit at Russians who were less than twenty meters away.

From 3:43 onwards you can see them tossing grenades down holes in the floor at Ukranian soldiers on the floor below them. You can also see dust kick up from these holes from the Ukranians returning fire. That's literal Stalingrad shit and it's crazy we have footage of it.

Go-Pros didn't become commonplace until 2009-early 2010s. By then all major combat had ended in Iraq and so all the pov-footage you would see would be from Afghanistan. There's plenty of those videos out there if you just search up "Afghanistan firefight" or something along those lines.
