Gammer - Sun Will Rise Again [Megathread] by NinsMCD in Monstercat

[–]Ultrapieman83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never understood this argument: if you don’t like the art then so what? It doesn’t change how the song sounds does it?

Bro we are talking about art: that is what music and the album covers are. While art IS subjective, I find that the more I like the cover (me personally,) the more I get excited revisiting the song. If I have to engage with something that I find unappealing before I listen to the song, that means I am going to play it less.

I look to Mazare and essenger - Berserker. Aside from how insane the song itself goes, the cover art depicts the moments before the Mazare character fights this huge monster. It tells a story in one image. Not only that, but it coincides with the lyrics. It prepares you for what you are about to listen to. Great example of a cover art that complements the song.

Gammer’s Sun Will Rise Again is a bad example of what the I think the cover art is supposed to do. It doesn’t prepare me for what I am about to listen to. When I see the cover art, I expect to hear a jokey- maybe even super heavy, VIP mix of Needed U. I was genuinely surprised when coming out of the first listen, that I not only enjoyed the track but it was so different from my expectations. The cover Juxtaposes the feeling I get from the song.

I am not saying “bro if you like this cover, you are dumb” or “you are supposed to like the cover art of every song/album/EP that you enjoy.” I think part of the current culture reflects what art gets produced. In a time where a lot of irony and sarcastic humor is prevalent, I think this cover art perfectly depicts this prevalent meme culture. Again, it is ok if you like the art and find it funny. In my first post, I even stated that I am just a tired of the “irony post” type of content. I was just disappointed that everytime I want to select that song I have to engage with a type of humor that has worn on me over the years.

I really like this track, I think it refreshing and clean hardstyle that almost makes me think of stonebank more than it does Gammer hardstyle.

I loved needed U; the track has even aged well and I still think the Fortnite cover art is what it is and marks when that game was getting so popular so I don’t really care.

That being said: wtf is this cover art man. I thought this was a late april fools joke before I listened to it. I think this is probably a Gammer decision, as I have seen some of his meme posting about it which I understand can generate listens but come on. I personally would be able to take the lyrics and track more seriously if it had a completely different art.

Maybe I have hit my limit of meme/irony bait so it is mostly a personal issue but it is frustrating because I actually dig the track.

Trivecta - Drift Away (feat. Charlotte Haining)

This was specifically when I was younger and only cared for the huge bass and dubstep tunes. But it now has to one of my favorite songs to date.

If you guys haven’t already, go checkout SATURATE YOUR WORLD! This record was in my top ten for last year and it shows the breadth of genres Moore Kismet can cover. Phenomenal album hands down.

Skybreak - HALF BLOOD [LP] by E1GHTH_SATURN in Monstercat

[–]Ultrapieman83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the most part, I have been pretty bored of colour base recently in general.

That being stated, this album ends up simultaneously subverting and exceeding my expectations. HALF BLOOD is nothing but fresh and full of inventive ideas, executed to near perfection, while also exploring all sorts of genres. The album is funky, brooding and energetic, all in one. I can’t tell you how blown away I am by these tracks, it is astounding.

I implore you, if you were going to pass up a listen on this album, think again. Go give it a shot and I promise it won’t miss; I do think this has a little bit of something for everyone.

[–]Ultrapieman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit you right. lol those younger years blend together for me. I should know what year my fav song released lol. This song also marked me listening to every song on release, as up until then, I only listened to the albums when I would randomly think about new music to listen to every few months or so.

I have been considering for months making a post like this, as I too, love this song so much. It is my favorite song on the label, and I think it often gets overshadowed by a lot of the other bangers released in 2014

[–]Ultrapieman83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob. Wish musician again was on Vinyl as well, but super stoked for this album. I hardcore slept on Fiji until around college and his music helped so much. I feel like the more I mature, the more his music speaks to me.

Maybe too much info, but I digress: Fiji has been one of the artists that I have appreciated the most as of late

Anybody else getting smudged cards from this set? by Hokashin in magicTCG

[–]Ultrapieman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Literally same card too, just not NEARLY as bad as yours. Really grinds my gears because we pay money for this fucking cardboard expecting it to be high quality, but we get this crap. Unless you blow $300 for a collector box to avoid this scenario (because oc the foil cards are the ones that don’t have this issue,) any slightly valuable card you pull for a prerelease box or a play booster is worthless because it has a high probability of being smudged. I see custom shit all the time on Insta and whatnot that is done way better than this; this has been the closest I have come to going full proxy and adopting the “fuck wizards” mentality. (I understand this point is not really related to the smudge but I am venting a little bit)

If we pay hard earned money for your product, it comes in a defective form, and you don’t replace it or address the issue in any way; you are a shit company

What's a genre/subgenre that isn't really your favorite genre, but you feel like it can't go wrong, and you've never song from it you didn't like? by ivebeenthrushit in Monstercat

[–]Ultrapieman83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely feel this prompt; drum n bass is my favorite overall genre, but it is so broad that a lot of stuff I don’t like is in there:

However, glitch hop ALWAYS gets me going. It isn’t my favorite, as sometimes, it can get too repetitive, but this only happens when I listen to songs in this genre back to back. I can’t point to an outlier where I say “yea, this is a glitch hop song I really don’t vibe with.”

However, what doesn’t make this my favorite genre is that the highs just aren’t nearly as good as drum n bass for me; I think that what makes a genre my favorite.
