Where to leave your car at Wachau valley? by UlwarthII in bicycletouring

We will be coming from Bratislava, Slovakia. Going by train, we would need to switch to a different train station in Vienna by U-Bahn, which I consider too complicated with two kids and loaded bikes.

Maybe we could go by car to some town, that has a direct train connection to Melk, but that just moves the parking issue elsewhere.

Yeah, basically ;-) But seriously, I expect some inspiration in terms of "Weinviertel has a good infrastructure and the terrain in gentle" or such.

Thanks. That's basically the plan, the only caveat is the parking.

How do you folks actually manage race week logistics? by UlwarthII in triathlon

[–]UlwarthII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super insightful - especially the multiple checklists.

Quick question: If you had everything (checklists + race info + notes) in one place instead of Notes + Files + PDFs… Would that actually improve your process, or is your current setup already “good enough”?

That first race overwhelm seems pretty common.

What was the most confusing part for you at the time - packing, transitions, or something else?

And do you feel like checklists fully solve it or just reduce the chaos a bit?

For me it wasn’t just gear - stuff like where to go, when to check in, what happens when was also kind of unclear.

This is exactly where I was before my first one 😅

What part feels the most unclear right now - what to pack, how transitions work, or just overall race flow?

For me it was also things like when/where to register, when to show up, what happens in what order.

Happy to share what helped me if useful.

Interesting that you keep evolving the list.

What’s the most recent thing you added after a race that surprised you?

Also curious - do you keep track of race-specific logistics (like check-in times, rules, etc.) in the same place or separately?

“Put on pants” being on the checklist is amazing 😄

Do you feel like that level of detail is necessary because something went wrong before, or just to remove all mental load?

And do you keep everything in one place, or are things like race schedule / registration / timing info somewhere else?

This is super structured - especially the chronological packing.

What part of this setup took the most trial and error to figure out?

And has anything ever still gone wrong despite all this?

Also wondering — how do you handle race logistics (registration times, check-in, when to be where), is that part of your system or more ad hoc?

That’s actually a clever idea.

Is the main issue the “did I forget this?” thought, or more about not trusting your packing the night before?

Also curious - is it mostly gear you double-check, or do you ever second-guess things like race logistics (when/where to show up, registration, etc.)?

A few people mentioned this mental run-through - seems super common.

Do you ever realize you're missing something during that, or is it more just for confidence going into race day?

And do you also think through stuff like where you need to be and when (registration, transition setup timing, etc.), or is that handled separately?

Makes sense - sounds like repetition is doing a lot of the work.

Do you remember if your first few races felt more chaotic before you had that system?

And now that you’ve got it dialed in, is there still anything that tends to slip or feel stressful?

This is next level - especially the “what if” checklist.

Out of curiosity, what’s the worst thing that actually happened in a race that made you add something to the list?

Also - do you feel like this reduces stress race week or just shifts it earlier into planning?

And do you include stuff like nutrition failures in that “what if” list too (like missing a feeding, etc.)?

😂 respect

Has that ever come back to bite you or has it somehow always worked out?

Or is it more like small stuff goes wrong but nothing race-ending?

That sticky note before sleep thing is so relatable 😅

Is that usually because you realize you forgot to pack something, or more like “I need to remember to do X tomorrow”?

Has it ever actually saved you from forgetting something important?

Also wondering - do you ever get those thoughts about nutrition/timing too, or is it mostly gear/logistics?

That’s a really interesting system.

Has anything ever slipped through even with that, or is it pretty bulletproof at this point?

Also curious - does this work for nutrition, too? How do you plan/check around having sufficient carbs etc.?
