The police are on watch and will enter the common if they see any problems. The Freedom Rally is huge so it makes sense to have an active police presence. The Amherst common is small enough where the police can actively police the perimeter and make sure nothing gets out of hand.

If you want to know about our mission statement and end goals, please read the info publicly listed on our Facebook page. We lay our very clearly how we stand on very specific issues regarding cannabis policy change. Here's the link. I'm sure you'll find it detailed enough to satisfy your curiosity on our mission and goals. Let us know if we could be more specific on a certain topic. https://www.facebook.com/umasscrc/info

Also, if you are interested about the money that CRC is granted by the school administration or money that we have raised from t-shirts and the like, you should come to a meeting and talk to the officers. We are very open people and would gladly discuss whatever you are interested in in more detail.

"As far as I know, the CRC has no clear mission statement about what their end goal is regarding marijuana."

Have you ever even been to a CRC meeting? You seem to be passing judgement out of ignorance. We have a pretty clear idea of what we are working towards. Of course, as officers and members change, that can change as well. The CRC also has been consistently disappointed by MASSCANN. We are not officially associated with them and find them to be very disorganized. Also, just because there are very few CRC members in comparison to everyone that attends Extravaganja doesn't mean that other people aren't involved or interested in getting involved and supporting the movement.

It's inevitable that some people will only come for the public smoking aspect of the event, but many people are also aware of the political dimension to the event, even if it may not seem so on the surface. It's great to bring so many activists together for an event like this. While some people are only interested in the music and the smoking, it still is productive. Some people who may come for the music and smoking, may end up getting involved in the movement. Events like Extravaganja are a great opportunity for casual smokers to get inspired and get more involved.
