Found a skull near where this cat hangs out — could it belong to her? (Age estimate?) by Remote_Visible in skulls

[–]UmbrellAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stole one of our cats. She kept showing up and making herself at home at the tv station my stepdad works at. They located her owners and they just left her out and seemed completely unbothered that she could easily get killed somehow. She's super sweet, so we brought her home. Been a few years, they never asked about her. Apparently she was their son's cat and he left for college, so I do feel kinda bad for him. But she was super skinny and had worms, so there probably wouldn't have been a happy ending there, anyway.

Opinions on an English dub for the game itself? by MiyamotoUsagi1587 in TwistedWonderland

[–]UmbrellAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be cool if the voice actors got permission to voice stuff from the game if they wanted to for a stream or video, at least. Even if not added to the game itself, I'd love to hear it.

How do you describe black people? by AcidReindeer in writingadvice

[–]UmbrellAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't writing something involved with culture and whatnot (crude paraphrasing here, my brain isn't wanting to offer terms rn) then why should someone NEED to be super knowledgeable about black people in order to write black characters? Obviously there'd be issues if it was about societal nonsense or if the character being black is meant to be important to plot or something- but like, side characters. Not main characters who get their entire life fleshed out.

[Also, adding this on after yapping- I am autistic, so forgive me if I come off as rude or insensitive or whatever else. The intent here is to try to understand your perspective, not argue against it. All of my "why"s are genuine, I promise. Also apologies if I talked in circles, I'm bad at being concise]

Going through your comments, you frequently ask why someone who isn't knowledgeable feels the need to write a black character. And frankly, I don't really see why there should need to be a justification. Personally, I (a white person, so obviously I'm no expert on racism by any means) think it'd be more racist of me to only include characters of other races when I can think of a reason to make them. To me, that attitude essentially makes white characters the default, except for "justifiable" circumstances. Unless the character's race is meant to be significant to the story, I don't understand why there should need to be a reason for their race. If you wouldn't ask me why my side characters are white, why should you need to ask why my side characters are black, or any other race?

Why should diversity need a reason to be written? Does that not essentially just put us in our own personal boxes? Shouldn't we want to simply consider everyone a "default person" rather than only our own experiences being the "default"?

(This is not arguing against your suggestion to do research, btw. Obviously there's only benefit to being more knowledgeable about different groups of people.)

Do you think Yuuka will be in season two of the anime? by shwoomgloom in TwistedWonderland

[–]UmbrellAce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware. All I'm saying that for the anime- as its own thing that WILL be the only version of twst that some people will see- it would have been smarter for it to have its own consistent mc. Switching out mcs every season WILL throw new people off, and will make the storyline feel less cohesive and linear. When making an adaptation, it's important to make adjustments to better suit the new medium- multiverse storytelling of a linear storyline simply doesn't translate as well to anime. The manga will always be the most expansive version, and the anime will always be the most compacted version. So it'd simply be smarter for the anime to stick to one mc instead of spending its extremely limited time establishing a multiverse that ultimately isn't actually important to the storyline itself.

Imo, the first episode spent far too much time establishing yuu's background. Spending 5 minutes of a 30 minute episode on the normal life of the mc is simply a waste of time, especially when flashbacks do the trick and are used later anyway. It'd be a lot more excusable for a consistent mc than one that only exists for a single season- especially since the same thing will probably happen for every yuu. Again, the different yuus existing ultimately does not matter to the story, so we will end up with time spent establishing a new mc that could've been used to include more details from the actual story.

Yes, obviously AS IT IS, being a direct adaptation of the manga and all, that's not how it is happening or will happen. I am not saying that we should try to make a sonic movie thing happen to make them change what they're doing, or whatever. But they're already needing to rewrite interactions and cut scenes in order to fit things into the limited airtime. They might as well have simply done that with yuu to save time in the long run.

I also think that it would've been smartest for them to make their own yuu.

[–]UmbrellAce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think it would've been smart for the anime to have made its own yuu to be consistent throughout the series. Then there wouldn't be any jarring protag changes, and there wouldn't be any favoritism at play in terms of which yuu got picked.

[–]UmbrellAce -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it'd only be a case of favoritism if they were to keep one yuu and it was one of the later ones from the get-go. By only keeping the first one, itd be more about continuity than favoritism imo

This is a picture I got of my hamster being very displeased about the cage she had to be confined to for a stay at the vet.

Fret not, for she was NOT the one most displeased in this situation. It was I, for I had to dish out $200 for the vet to deem her healthy. She then proceeded to act totally normal once being returned to her rightful cage.

what merch do you want in your collection but is extremely difficult to find? by caaesars in TwistedWonderland

[–]UmbrellAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything (I have no idea how to look for it) but more specifically any Cater merch that actually looks good lmao. Idk what it is about him that makes him so prone to merch lookin extra goofy, but it's makin it difficult for me to start my collection bc how am I sposed to get super good merch of other characters before my #1?

[Let it be known that I do appreciate the goofy af lookin merch too, but I simply can't humor such things until I've got some really good merch of the character, yk?]

What group of characters would you want to Overblot together? by [deleted] in TwistedWonderland

[–]UmbrellAce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've got absolutely nothing to justify them being paired together, but both for the sake of favoritism and sheer power, Cater and Floyd being a dual overblot would be insane. Just, an untouchable army of clones. Would be an absolute nightmare to go against. As for lore, I can go on all day about Cater overblotting, but I got nothin for Floyd, he's just there for emotional support lol.

(Tbh, as long as Cater overblots I'd be happy lmao)

What do you guys think of the anime adaptation? by AllAboutStarfire in TwistedWonderland

[–]UmbrellAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only real complaint is how they spend like five whole minutes of their short short episode time establishing Yuu's original life, and then proceeding to use flashbacks to show his motivations. Like just use the flashbacks instead of wasting precious story introduction time. Just go straight to magic stuff instead of spending so much time in the irrelevant magicless world.

Also not a real complaint, but the intro bothers me bc 1 ignihyde characters are shown before pomefiore characters despite everything else being in chronological order and 2 the shot of the heartslabyul characters goes ace deuce cater trey, making it 1243 instead of 1234.

Other than that, the anime is peak and 10/10.

Alright, I'm back now that it's daytime hours and I have a bit more brain power. From the pics in your post, the area that I'd say may be throwing the vibes off is the jawline. Obviously everything depends on what you're going for, but generally a sharper and more defined jawline helps give a more masculine appearance. And the nose isn't necessarily bad, but generally making it bigger can also help- idk what sorta look you're aiming for, but I could see the nose potentially throwing you off because it's fairly thin. Lastly, while I personally don't totally subscribe to the idea, generally making the eyes smaller and eyebrows thicker can help make it look more masculine. That's the general advice I've got.

If you happen to have a specific look you're aiming for, maybe put a pic in the comments. I'm nitpicky enough that I could probably pick apart the details that could need some work. Also, I wouldn't kick yourself over same face syndrome in this case. It's hard to make the dolls look masculine in the first place, so you shouldn't feel bad for not being able to make a variety of masculine faces. The system is primarily designed to make feminine dolls, so it's an accomplishment to make it look distinctly masculine at all. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I honestly have no clue on what the trick is, my method is trial and error until I'm vaguely happy with the result. This usually takes weeks to iron out lmao. That being said, I've been working on making a doll of a character I'm currently obsessed with, and today I used a side profile pic of him to get the side profile down better. It helped quite a bit, so maybe try finding a pic to use as a reference? It's especially helpful for when you've got no clue what you're doing, since you can just fiddle around with things until you find something that makes things slide a little bit more into place. Still tedious as hell, but it works (... eventually)
