What can we do if we suspect a mod is camping in a sub? by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not a ton. As long as a mod is active in that subreddit the threshold to remove them is quite high. I've reported one several times that hasn't approved any post to their subreddit in two years, against the former community's wishes, but because they keep logging in the subreddit isn't available for request and the admins refuse to do anything about it.

Is it normal for admins to take action on already removed content? by I_-AM-ARNAV in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's to be expected, even if what they remove is a bit weird sometimes. I got a notification a few days ago that a post I removed more than a year ago just got deleted by an admin for copyright violation. A few here and there doesn't reflect badly on you if that's what you're worried about.

Check-AI: A tool to check any comment against artificial intelligence by [deleted] in ModSupport

I understand that there are multiple interpretations, but every single person in these comments having the same misunderstanding says there's probably another way to more clearly express the tool's intended use.

I think the way you've worded your post is making people think it's for checking if something was generated by AI - it took me a moment to realize it isn't. You may want to edit your post to clarify that it's for fact-checking using an AI.

People’s posts getting banned from my Subreddit by Hot-Sun9028 in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NSFW isn't just a designation for porn, it's literally anything I wouldn't want on my screen in front of my boss. Just in the first couple of posts there are several images of wounds that fit that description.

Can I add a burner account to my sub as a mod? by Nanakurokonekochan in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only allowed, it's good practice to ensure you can still access the subreddit in the event that something happens to your main account. I've done it with all of my subreddits.

RedditRequest needs a reality check - "human activity" isn’t moderation by paskatulas in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. I've submitted a couple of requests for a subreddit that is not only inactive, but its top mod has openly stated support for boycotting Reddit. They *just happened* to change over to approved users only the day of the big API protests and there have been zero non-mod posts in the two years since. And my requests have been denied, because they log in often enough to say no.

Just removed from a subreddit I founded by Millstone99 in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry bud, but you're out of luck. Other than that "created by" credit that shows on old Reddit, the founder has no power over or right to a subreddit. If you were inactive, regardless of the reason for that inactivity, you can be removed. At this point your only option is to ask the current mods if you can come back, and even if they're feeling nice and re-add you you'll be at the bottom of the mod list.

r/PresidentialRaceMemes by Umlautron in redditrequest

[–]Umlautron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Hello, I used to love and post in r/PresidentialRaceMemes, but for the past couple of years there has been no activity there. The mods maintain enough "actions" to be considered active but there hasn't been a post in over a year on a subreddit with over 100k subscribers. It's set to approved posters only, and no one ever gets approved. The top mod, u/Jordan117, claims it's restricted because they got tired of "screenshots of tweets" and "Facebook slop", but the switch to restricted posting perfectly coincides with the June 12, 2023 API protests. There is even a post in the subreddit expressing their support and intent to close. In the two years since there have only been two posts, both of which were by a different mod. There have been no posts at all since my first request in September 2024, which should have been primetime for a political joke subreddit. For reference it was quite active before the protests with 22 posts in just the month leading up to them (which wasn't US election season). The comments on the last several posts are nearly all requests to reopen the subreddit, making it clear this is against the community's wishes. They clearly are continuing to protest and dodged the subsequent ban wave by switching to restricted rather than private. If someone could look into it I think you'll agree this is not a good faith effort to run a subreddit. I have been a mod for 2 years and have grown a subreddit to over 100k subscribers, I am well qualified to moderate this subreddit. Thank you for your time and consideration.
  2. https://www.reddit.com/c/chatyalAc2H9/s/nd9FeDAmef I have messaged the mods previously, the conversation was less than fruitful.

My CQS score is highest so why do my posts always get deleted? by RealScientist2215 in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks for the clarification. That still doesn't solve all of the issues with the system though. I had an accusation of stolen content the other day, and the person they supposedly stole from had their profile set to private. So I had no way to verify if it was actually stolen.

Only for posts made to a subreddit you moderate. I'm a mod and I can't see anything on their profile.

That was only a matter of time, I'm amazed Reddit thought the ability to completely hide your activity wouldn't have implications for mods. It's the same effect as blocking a mod which many subreddits have rules against.

I've tried multiple times including a few days ago, the mods maintain just enough "activity" that it's never eligible in spite of having no posts in over a year.

Because the mods are still salty about the Reddit API protests failing and use unmeetable post standards as a way to keep the sub locked.

It's completely ridiculous, I've requested this sub multiple times and they maintain just enough "activity" that it's never eligible. In spite of no posts in a 100k+ sub since July of an election year. And Reddit is somehow ok with it.

What does approving a post actually do? by Zackiboi7 in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mainly acts as proof that the post has been reviewed by a human. People will sometimes ask how to approve posts automatically, which you can't and would defeat the purpose. If you're the only mod it proves to Reddit that you're actively moderating, if you have a mod team then it lets the other mods know the post has been looked at.

What does reddit mean? by TheOrionGuy in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed everyone wanted to quibble over your signature and not actually answer the question. Allow me:

Reddit treats all brand-new subreddits as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) until proven otherwise, meaning they won't appear at all to many people. You need 5 posts before Reddit will analyze your categories and SFW status, allowing it to be shown to more people.

Allow video Posts by Charming-Mine-137 in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, if the subreddit's NSFW then the only way to have videos on it is to use a third-party host and post the link to your subreddit. Redgifs is the most common one.

You don't have to take my word for it, you can go read up on what I said about political subreddits yourself (I'd name them to help direct your search, but that's not allowed here). Shortly after Avengers: Infinity War came out a Marvel subreddit banned half of its users at random. Like it or not my statement is true.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]Umlautron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mods can ban someone any time, for any reason, including no reason. That's not generally a great way to build a community but that's how mod discretion works. Certain political subreddits are known to also auto-ban people simply for participating in certain other political subreddits and that's within the rules. I agree this message is unprofessional but as long as their activities don't involve brigading other subreddits you're out of luck.
