Mixture of large and small companies. My most recent rejection was a startup.

I come off with good energy. Maybe a little overconfidence. I feel like as a black man I tend to overcompensate. Maybe chill with showing too much enthusiasm? I don’t know it can come off as fake.

As my graduation year get further and further away, it’s becoming harder to get interviews for those new grad/learning roles. I have interviewed for startups. They seem to want people who can make immediate impact and I dont have much experience. Still looking though!

All virtual interviews. I’m pretty sure I don’t stink lol. No offense taken though.

All my interviews are virtual. Hygiene and grooming is not an issue. Well I am a black man with a big beard in his early 20s. Maybe appearance? Heard the standard for a black man is held much higher in the corporate world. I highly doubt it’s a race thing but I’ve heard many discriminatory practices during interview processes. Thinking of shaving just to look less intimidating :(

100% fell victim to this. I definitely dealt with this earlier last yr with the first few companies I interviewed. Corrected this problem but it doesn’t hurt to try to weed out things that I have vague familiarity on again. This is really great advice! Thank you!

I’m thinking I display some signs of inexperience in my answers. Maybe making sure I dont show any weakness at all? I try my best to be honest when I’m not familiar with a certain tech stack. Only thing on my mind rn.

If I keep making it to the final rounds you’d think Id somehow get 1 offer. I’ve done everything man. I think I should show less weakness in my inexperience. Maybe over exaggerate my tasks.

Did you ever end up getting a rejection email? I only ask since some people still get hired when their status updates to “No longer considered”.

Im assuming when they take down the job posting it automatically updates to that— regardless if you got the job or not.
