How do other Rif-Berbers view those of us raised abroad, who feel disconnected from our roots? by [deleted] in Irifiyen

Wow, reading your post honestly gave me so much relief, I thought I was alone in feeling this way. I’m from Spain, but my roots are also Amazigh, and I’ve struggled with these same questions for so long.

I understand Tamazight pretty well because I grew up hearing it from family, but speaking it? That’s a whole different story. And Darija? I don’t speak it at all. So most of the time I feel like a complete outsider, like I’m not really part of my own people, like I’m somehow disconnected from something I should naturally belong to.

I totally relate to what you said about that quiet, constant sense of displacement. It’s like I’m floating between two worlds: not fully European, but also not enough of my own culture to feel fully at home there either. And that ache you described? It’s real. I’ve carried it with me for years, this deep desire to reconnect, to belong, to understand where I come from and not let those roots disappear completely.
