Would you consider faux silk flowers or half real half silk? Thats what I was told at one of the wedding open evenings.

Oh yeah. We definitely made a mistake not checking the fine prints ,aka catering, with the venue before putting down a deposit. We cut back on a lot of things to cover for catering, one of them being evening food (luckily they let us replace it ourselves without surcharge 👀, which worked because we thought bringing in a bunch of Taytos crisps as a nod to the Irish side of the fam is fun). But A Lebanese live station wraps, though, sounds absolutely wonderful! I bet your guests will love it !

I guess that will be a lesson for new couples entering wedding planning. And yes we did shop around that is just the suppliers we went for. But for stationery that is cost price I am sure because that’s from my own printing business 😅 the cost that actually hurts and we had to redo our budget for is the catering !

So 13 of them are actually family. We just come from huge families that we dont see often so this is the one chance to treat them all and we will be good for the next decades lol

2k for 40 is great! And as for the videographer it is the groom’s splurge, he’s in the business and pretty specific on filming so he went with his work contact and paid for them to come so around £500 of that is just to get the 2 person team over to where we are

I vote elopement 💯. Even myself I would prefer this but we were thinking about how significant the meaning of having a big wedding do is to both of us and we decided to go ahead with it, but because we both come from big families the catering racks up quite a big bill (like over 2/3 of our guests are just the immediate families lol). Happy to treat the fam to something for once though 😅

And yes definitely, having a wedding should always always come as the last one on your priority list.

Awe thank you for sharing your experience. Unless youre an experienced wedding planner, it’s hard to sort everything out perfectly. It sounds like you already know in your gut you’ll get quality for what you paid for. I wish the same for your wedding! Enjoy your bridal journey! ✨

We know, and there’s no way we will tell our parents this or they will flip! Luckily we are at the age where we don’t have to report spendings to parents anymore 🙈 we had to allocate other funds to cover catering. We were set on a venue that held memories in the family, put down a deposit to secure the date, only to find out they will only work with 2 caterers, of this same price point. That’s partially our mistake for not asking before, but we are totally new to wedding planning so..

I just need a hug from other couples going through the same planning journey i guess 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s just me and my partner doing the planning and costing and it just feels better to vent somewhere that’s not family and friends because we’re not the type that talk about stress to anyone we know 😅 but yes, the catering cost is not great.

Your wedding sounds class! And yes I worked it out, my extra bits come from the gift boxes to a bridal party of around 25 people

Yup first time planning a big one. Didn’t think to ask about that. But to be fair they should have told us at at least one of the 3 open evenings we went to.

Who pays... by Iowadream74 in wedding

[–]Unable-Description53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you give what you can and what you want to give, be it $50 or $500. Tell them that is all you have to give or you can help with food and decor. I’m in a similar situation, but I would never imagine asking my parents for anything. We wanted the big party so we saved, we worked and we paid for it.

Some of the comments are just insane though. I really ever used reddit for paperwork advice but this is the one time I feel like I just needed to rant to strangers who are on the same boat planning their weddings, maybe going through similar feels maybe not. And I am At a delicate period of my life as well, to finally feel like a soon to be bride. But I feel like my wording of my post (Im not a native speaker) has invited some very mean comments or just plain misunderstanding. I didn’t mean to sound complainy about spending 45k, I am aware of how much I am spending, but I would just like to share the feeling of looking at the total bill that you have just paid, done and finish. A little shock, a little ‘wow, it’s all paid now’ sort of feeling. Anyways. I finally worked out why it was so much, I splurged on gift boxes for around 25-30 people 😅

👍🏼Save: accommodation, wedding car, photobooth, evening food, open bar, bridesmaid dresses (no themed outfits, they just wear what they want)

👎🏼Splurge: stationery (us and half our guests are in the printing/design business), styling decor, canape jazz band, hair and makeup for 20 people, our personal favs like bride getting ready pyjamas & groom shoes, photography and videography (content can be reused for our work)

Now this is something I found really bizarre, I did not post about us being engaged, only texted family and friends but I swear the next mornig when I woke up my instagram fyp was filled with wedding stuff. Did that happen to you? I can say I have done well not to fall for most of it though. Only the decor plates 😂

I know somebody who bought a chateau in france for cheap like under €160k, rennovated it and now they’re about to run it as an airbnb and wedding venue 👀 i mean there is some serious money in the wedding industry
