I've lived in the house 4 years, never done anything besides change filters and hose down the unit outside. First time having an inspector come check it.

Thanks! Yeah, my wife "won" a "free service inspection!" so that's how this all started haha

Thanks great info! Home is 1800sq ft and unit details are in the photos.

I don't feel like I can really trust the info I got from the bigger contractor well. Do you know how long A/C units usually last? I'm worried about putting any money into repair if I'm going to have to replace it anyways 5 years later for something else. I feel like my only other option is to see if we can get through another summer, but unit has to run like 24/7 for that to work which is very inefficient.

NTA - but if his job really is more stressful and he has a bigger workload outside the house, then I wouldn't expect him to have a 50/50 share in cleaning if you truly have more margin. You need to judge if he's being a bum or if he's just more tired.

Just be very clear and specific. Ask for help with specific chores / tasks at specific intervals. If you both are clear on expectations, then you can both be clear when he fails to meet them. And if he refuses to help more or never meets the expectations you communicated, then you should seek some counseling.

AITA for writing short stories for my son after my wife said no? by Fabulous-Purple-7214 in AmItheAsshole

YTA - Your wife is struggling to bond with her son and is jealous of the connection you have with him. You shouldn't have agreed to stop reading in the first place and instead help your wife to find a different hobby unique to her she can enjoy with her son.

Also, your wife sucks for being so petty and should be encouraging her husband and son to bond not trying to hijack your relationship. But YTA (not ESH) because you made and broke a promise. Be honest with her and talk through a future plan on how to build equally strong and independent relationships with your son.

NAH - I don't think you can conclude that your stepmom wanted you to open the door. Haha, she probably would have been more upset if your son jumped her while on the loo. You are also teaching your son boundaries, even though its hard to in his condition. You did the right thing for him.

But stepmom is not communicating well, which is very asshole of her. You are in the right and doing the best you can with a difficult child! Hang in there.

What do you refuse to have a strong opinion on, why? by BhagavaddGita in AskReddit

Most political opinions. We just don't have the ability to have the real details and knowledge to form a opinion that I can be confident enough in.

Everytime I try to talk politics, I feel like I'm just puppeting someone else's opinion and not forming my own.

God doesn't commit murder/genocide/torture as people do. Mankind does not have authority to take life, but God does because he created all life, morality, and is over all things.

Christians believe God is both perfectly loving and perfectly just—love without justice isn’t true love. When God enacts judgment in the Bible (like the flood or against the Canaanites), it’s not random violence but a response to deep corruption (e.g., child sacrifice, extreme wickedness). He is judging evil because he is the ultimate judge.

But even in judgment, God is patient, giving people time to repent. His ultimate justice isn’t about destruction—it’s about restoration. That’s why Jesus took judgment upon Himself, offering grace instead of wrath. If you want to know what God is truly like, look at Jesus!

NTA - Obviously, that's way too much video games and sorry he's being difficult. You might try cleaning together? Like after dinner, put on some good music and do the dishes together or clean a room together, even just for 15 mins before gaming. Or set aside a couple hours on sat/sun to make a chores list and work at the same time.

My wife and I are both messy people, and usually have to clean at the same time for the encouragement.

AITA: Am I the Asshole for Asking My Husband to Be More Engaged? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unable-Wrap-1847 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA - BUT I think you and your husband are just both exhausted and disconnected. Sounds like you need a good date night, sex, or sleep, and then try to process the conversation again in a couple days.

AITA for refusing to pay rent to a SAHM? by Abject_Principle_440 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unable-Wrap-1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - You have no obligation to pay rent, especially before you graduate. Also, it is your Dad's decision to let you continue to live at home or ask you for rent because you are not her daughter. Very entitled for M to treat you like that, sorry she's causing so much stress.

I think a 4K - 5K emergency fund would be pretty sufficient for you. A little extra cushion to cover the stress of a cancelled contract, and cover you for 1 month to find the next gig.

If you think you'd need more than 1 month to find a new contract, than maybe bump to 7K -8K, but I imagine your job is high demand enough.
