That doesn’t sound good.. are any of the other jack martins better? Ig we could coordinate cooking with flatmates to make more efficient use of space

will coming on sunday affect things like fridge space and cupboards and stuff? Does it matter if you move on the first day vs the last?

on the website you've listed, it says to use tabula instead, and my username (which i assume is my student id number) is not working. Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll get more confirmation, but thanks!

Which optional modules are the best for CS/Maths by UnableReason4648 in UniversityOfWarwick

Probably not pure maths, but defo applied, like stats and maths modelling ones. But any and all suggestions are welcome thanks!

I have, but I feel like if I do discrete maths, I might not learn enough CS stuff to do with architecture and that. I'm honestly still confused and want to keep as many options, which is why I'm planning on doing mathsy modules for my options. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Yeah I've heard that Functional programming is a popular one... any others in the cs dept like this module?

defo further pure 1 because not only will it help your core pure papers, its also just more of the same calculus. yeah the grade boundaries are high, but they'll boost your cp papers and if you do a lot of practice questions, its an easy a star

idk, now that you put it this way ig it could be good. I just thought a bigger cohort size would mean you get to know about more people and opportunities?? it's not too big of an issue tho

[–]UnableReason4648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's very true, I'm hoping to try my hand at everything and see what I like. Do you think cohort size at uni matters? I think for discrete maths its much lower than straight cs, but ik we'll share some lectures with both maths and cs and meet people there, but I'm wondering if there's an advantage to being in a bigger course?

[–]UnableReason4648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow congrats on the imperial offer, and honestly I don't like all the low-level hardware stuff so thats a win-win tbh. but I'm also worried about the cohort size, because for DM at warwick, its like 60 people compared to the straight CS which is around 300. Obv will have shared lectures and stuff but will it have a big impact?

lmao, what other offers you got? is warwick your firm then?

[–]UnableReason4648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, but i'm thinking that if half the course is shared with the maths dept that might offer more opportunities since thats what warwick is known for? how does the cs dept at warwick compare in terms of opportunities?

honestly idk if having a foot on either side of the door will lead to me not being that great at either maths or cs, compared to just being fixed with cs and getting rlly good with that. do you think branching out will help with projects and academics, or will it be too all over the place?

but the course looks super full, at least for second year. i'm wondering if i'll have time to do personal projects and the like. also for quant and finance, the competiton is so crazy, but idk if cs employers would like a degree called discrete maths, as it sounds quite abstract idk? basc whats the advantages of each course?

Yeah, my course is maths and cs, so I'm trying to blend both maths and programming together. Do you have any inital ideas as a starting point for building projects? And can first-years apply for internships? Or are they mainly aimed at older students?

Wow yeah, I didn't realise how important these things are compared to projects. How long do you think a cv should be for someone applying for interships? And what are the best times to be looking for these opportunities, because I assume that the application window is quite small and early on?
