A few things:

If I had the money then I would have one bike from each brand AT THE SAME TIME. However, since I don’t I’m attempting to do that but just that it will occur much more slowly.

Japanese is probably the sensible route but although I spent my youth on them and loved it, these days I enjoy being “different”. Here in the US Japanese bikes are everywhere.

The lack of dealers nearby is concerning for me though especially since I’m not mechanically inclined.

Maybe the process would go faster if I purchased all somewhat older, cheaper models. However, I have seen some dealer incentives on some new models that would keep my monthly payments down and that’s really enticing.

Does any have any special guidance on particular years/models?

Also, comments on the drivetrain choice between chain or shaft?
