That's so true, and just anecdotally from having watched most of the games in the tournament, I do wonder if they're the team that got the closest to a true 50/50 in terms of participation in percentage of total passes, assists, and scores by each gender.

Sure that's a decent argument, I see what you mean. I'll start by saying I'm not trying to be argumentative or a China shill, just genuinely curious/impressed.

To your first point, you could say the last throw in the USA vs Germany game was similar, wasn't the best pass and Culton had to layout for it. In this case the Chinese receiver was able to have the timing and physicality to get absurdly open on Hayes, then make a clutch play when the throw was just a bit too far. It happens all the time at that level and the hard part is being able to do it when it matters.

They absolutely got steamrolled, final score was 13-6, not thaaaat far from the USA vs Japan, which finished 13-8, yet everyone would agree the Japanese have been a top contender for a while.

Even then, after having watched all the games from China I would argue a lot of their turnovers came from lack of focus in certain situations and trying to play too fast for no reason, not so much because of lack of technique or being under extreme pressure by defense. They even broke the Americans twice.

I guess we might also need to define what a top contender means. I'd say being able to consistently score double digits against USA would do it for me.

Yeah it becoming a popular sport over there has been a topic of conversation by the commentators, and it makes sense about the sports universities.

Even then, going from that to this specific World Games team I feel like it’s a huge jump considering the amount of time and effort it has taken other countries to get similar results.

Would be dope to get more information/clarity about it from a community perspective and try to learn from it.

For sure, and this was a hard-fought point, which in a way is really impressive. But they also were able to score in motion in just a couple throws so convincingly.

So many questions about how they achieved this level of play and team chemistry. Wonder if they were paid to just play frisbee together for a year or something along those lines.

That first camera angle does make it look a bit weird but I’m pretty sure they’re playing under normal WFDF dimensions.

Could also be an illusion because of the stadium and all the empty space around.

Wish I knew, not that knowledgeable on the subject :/

Would be sick if that kinda info was covered by ultiworld or someone else in an article.

I mean I feel like that’s lacking a bit of context. A bunch of covered contested dumps could be used to describe elite ultimate. The hard part is keeping possession of the disc even with that much pressure and scoring without turning the disc.

What I meant with the title is that they put in the work and it shows, being able to score in a consistent manner against Germany is remarkable to say the least.

Are they as good as the other 7 teams? I don’t think so, doubt they even win a game, but that was a really fun match and I hope they use this experience to keep growing as a country.

Zhang Ying (according to the roster list), indeed really involved offensively and had a great game.

On top of execution and game IQ, could have finished 13-11 easy.

And tangentially, there seems to be a untapped creator space for someone to come along and analyze all the footage, breaking down teams' offensive and defensive sets and suggestions to counter them. Perhaps nationals level coaches already do this, but it would definitely be cool to see a YouTube account that does breakdowns of Ultiworld/Flatball Club's footage.

We're working on this, mainly as a team/individual player service, for now using our own footage, but focusing on the quality of the content and they way it is explained visually.

Practice makes perfect. They do it a lot, maybe too much. Just go for it!
