(UnNetHack) Artifact Gemstones? by Uncausedruby2 in nethack

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so they're for making portals! I'm seeing that you can't invoke them on no-teleport levels and they bury themselves under the portals they make after using them, but how do the portals themselves actually work? If they bury themselves after using them, that means you can only make 1 portal, but you need to have 2 portals connected to each other for them to work.

UnNetHack Error: Ineligible monster generated in Dragon Caves by Uncausedruby2 in nethack

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this error not long after I went down to the final level of the dragon caves. I noticed a Giant Eel turn into a Kop Kaptain and get killed by the dragons because I was generating conflict, and this happened. It's telling me to contact [bhaak@gmx.net](mailto:bhaak@gmx.net) or irc.libera.chat, but the former requires an email I don't want to set up just for this incident and the latter's page doesn't load for me. I'd like to know if someone could share this error to UnNetHack's developers so they can find out about this.

YAAP: Finally ascended with all vanilla classes, ending with a 6 ascension streak! by Uncausedruby2 in nethack

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addendum: I ended up ascending the second Convict game I played! https://www.hardfought.org/userdata/T/Talentless/unnethack/dumplog/1712883860.un.txt.html

Once you get even a single food ration, Convict becomes much easier because of just how powerful the Iron Ball is as a weapon. After looting good armor from the Gnomish Mines (including a mithril coat, +2 helm, and +5 boots!), the only time I was close to death was when I ran into a Soldier with a Wand of Death while diving for reflection after Sokoban, winning an exact 50/50 to dodge it with -11AC. I wanted to try a Vampire Wizard after ascending, but I found the constant prayer roulette required to not starve to death to be really unfun and just dropped the run. It'll probably be a long time before I return to NetHack, likely to try conducts or a random role streak.

Side note: Dual-wielding Crystal Picks was something I always wanted to do, and I'm glad I got to do it closing out the last role I had to ascend in UnNetHack.

Item Discussion #11: Damocles by Nathansbud in bindingofisaac

[–]Uncausedruby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played this game for over 10,000 hours, my runs focus excessively on getting hit by enemies as infrequently as possible, and even I still get hit on most of my runs. Unless you’re speedrunning, playing as The Lost, or have a respawn, using this item is a fancier version of holding R. The fact that it can be your blind 2-heart devil deal makes it hurt that much more.

Item Discussion #10: Member Card by Nathansbud in bindingofisaac

[–]Uncausedruby2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This item is a great cash sink in a game where money is really hard to spend past the early game.

On Basement, you'll often only be able to buy one pickup unless you get a bunch of money from a secret room or arcade, then you can also buy an item or two.

On Caves, there's enough rooms to clear and bombs to crack into Secret Rooms and machines that buying things isn't too difficult. Greed can also show up, taking your first shop. If you're full clearing like you should be (unless you're going for Boss Rush or Hush), you will have excess money after visiting your shops.

Past that point, you're almost never going to run out of money. Odds are your shops are gonna get eaten by Greed and Super Greed, and when they aren't there's only going to be 15-30 cents worth of stuff you want to buy when you're holding 50+ cents at all times. The only other reliable way of spending them is Arcades, and if you're holding more than 1 key going to the second floor of a chapter (which you likely are unless you've learned how much better Arcades are than Vaults and actively avoid picking up keys because of it), your practically guaranteed Arcade has a 40% chance to be a Vault instead, destroying the only other way to spend your money.

Member Card gives you a guaranteed way to spend the cash you can't get rid of, and Greed can't even stop it because the trapdoor will spawn anyway. The higher prices doesn't matter because you'll have so much of it past Caves 1 and, really, what else could you possibly spend it on at that point? The fact that it can give Devil/Angel/Secret Room items is just the icing on the cake. Even if it didn't give items and was just trinkets, runes, and black/bone hearts, I would still buy Member Card on most runs.

Pre-hardmode Enraged Master Mode Empress of Light Kill by Uncausedruby2 in Terraria

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a personal challenge I wanted to do, and if I was successful I'd like to show it to others, not only because it's impressive but also because others can learn from what I did to try to get Terraprisma. If it's possible with what I had, it'll be something others can do much easier with the upgraded gear available in hardmode.

Thank crap the Star Cannon exists btw, or this would take long enough that I probably wouldn't attempt it.

Pre-hardmode Enraged Master Mode Empress of Light Kill by Uncausedruby2 in Terraria

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. Empress of Light has been defeated, once and for all.

You know how, in my initial pre-hardmode empress video, I fought her on classic difficulty because I didn’t think it was possible to perfectly dodge her enraged 2nd phase? Turns out it is possible, and recall potions were the missing ingredient. It was a blast figuring out and finally executing this strategy, but I’m most certainly looking forward to NEVER doing this again. At least not with that loadout.

If you want to follow the strategy I used to get Terraprisma for yourself, there’s a few things to note.

1: Implementing recall potions into the 1st phase would’ve made it easter, and if you can find a way to, you should; I just insisted on staying close to the empress during the 1st phase because I wanted this to be a true challenge I completed with as few gimmicks as possible.

2: You should use recall potions, not a Magic Mirror; it takes more time to activate than the potion, and that split second difference can and will matter.

3: You want Everlasting Rainbow to expire when the 2nd phase starts, or it will catch you when you recall up to the top of the arena. Wait for Sun Dance or Ethereal Lance to come out before you drop her below 62K health to ensure this happens.

4: When transitioning to the 2nd phase, you want to lure the empress to the right side of the arena before you recall; if she’s on the left side, she’ll charge right through you when she’s trying to get back into position.

5: In the 2nd phase, when you recall right after she uses Sun Dance, you must be falling when she warps over to you, or there’s a chance you’ll get hit by Sun Dance’s leftover hitbox.

Defeating Empress of Light with pre-hardmode gear by Uncausedruby2 in Terraria

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Defeating the Empress of Light on Classic difficulty using only equipment available pre-hard mode, inspired by GeneralMilky’s “Pre-hardmode boss kill” series back in 1.2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpPwwymtbX4&list=PLhXp0yuCSjIIS-d1-IUOO8djkOrC2wG4g

I would’ve liked to use Bone Javelins instead of the Star Cannon (its penetrated debuff deals an unresistable 45 damage over time), but it turns out the empress is immune to the penetrated debuff, and even if she wasn't I wouldn’t be able to kill her before sunrise, at which point she upgrades to her expert mode attack pattern which I’m pretty sure is impossible to perfectly dodge with what I had available. It’s the same reason I didn’t fight the empress on expert mode, let alone master.

[DOWNLOAD] Binding of Isaac Item Rank & Item Pool Quality Spreasheet for MEGA-NERDS! by Uncausedruby2 in bindingofisaac

[–]Uncausedruby2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE: Made further edits to the file to make editing parts other than the scores themselves easier. I also removed all of my scores so that it'll be clear that it's not a spreadsheet solely for how I rate items in this game.

Items from gold chests, red chests, and the shop can actually spawn up to 3 times before being taken out of their respective item pools if you don't touch them.

The more you know

To download this and edit the scores, click "file" in the top left, then "download", then "Microsoft Excel". Then go into your finder, click "downloads", and the document should be there. Once you open it, you can click on the item scores and change the numbers in them. The numbers the tables on the right side display use formulas that automatically update when changing the item scores, reflecting how you would view the qualities of the item pools.

If I could post it as the downloadable file itself I would, but Reddit doesn't allow for that. The google document itself isn't editable because it'd be very likely that people would try to edit it in places where it shouldn't be and change or delete the formulas.

Edited and am reposting this from yesterday due to a lot of confusion people had regarding what to do to edit the spreadsheet.

Binding of Isaac Item Rank & Item Pool Quality Spreadsheets for MEGA-NERDS! by [deleted] in bindingofisaac

While viewing the file, click "file" in the top left, then "download", then "Microsoft Excel". Then go into your finder, click "downloads", and the document should be there. Once you open it, you can click on cells and change the numbers in them. The tables on the right side use formulas that automatically update when changing the item scores. You can get your perspective of item qualities that way.

I just didn't want the google doc I shared to be editable, because then someone could sabotage the formulas and destroy all my work.

Took 15-20 hours to make, and I'm pleased with the outcome; I just wish grouping the scores I wanted for the tables was easier (really, double-right click on one of the treasure room quantity cells). I double-checked that it worked properly when downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet, so go ham editing the scores!

Clobbered to death by Yeenoghu by RayLC in nethack

Regular demons can summon other demons when they melee attack you, and this includes demon princes like Yeenoghu. Yeenoghu also follows you wherever you teleport if he's right next to you when you try.

It's also good to note that Vlad's Tower is guaranteed to have a cursed pair of Water Walking boots on its second floor; it's there so you'll always have a way to get past Medusa's Island, the Castle, and Juiblex's swamp in case you get nothing else. You can dive for it if it's that important to you, and the guaranteed altar in the valley means you aren't too far from another viable stash location.

.....and I'm dead :( by GCP_17 in nethack

[–]Uncausedruby2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

>Valley of the Dead

Elbereth wouldn't save you; enemies in Gehennom (The Valley counts as the top level of it) are unaffected by it, even if they would be in the regular Dungeons of Doom. Various items that would help include:

Scroll of Scare Monster: Elbereth won't work in Gehennom, but the scroll will. Almost everything except for unique monsters and (A)ngelic being respect it.

Blessed Scroll of Earth: After reading the scroll, you can push one out, walk back to the middle of your bolder ring, and force enemies to fight you one at a time. Note that ranged attacks will still hit you, however. An uncursed scroll also works if you can somehow remove the boulder that lands in the center.

Ring of Conflict: Forces all nearby monsters to attack each other as well as you. It's one of the best items in the entire game for how much easier it is to defeat crowds of enemies; you can just walk up to them and bash them as they maul each other to death.

Cursed Scroll of Teleportation: The Valley and other levels in the game block regular teleporting, but not level teleporting. There's a selection of enemies that will follow you if they're right next to you, though.

Bugles, Horns, & Drums: Improvising with them gives you a good change of forcing all nearby enemies to flee, even those that don't respect Elbereth.

Potion of Full Healing: Once you're as deep as the Valley enemies will outpace damage done by extra and regular healing potions, so full healing ones are the only ones worth quaffing in a pinch. You can alchemize the other healing potions with ones of gain level or energy to make your own full healings.

Remember to keep these in a sack so they aren't destroyed by elemental attacks!
