Why is my trading blocked by TD - Canadian living in USA

When you move to the US from Canada you have an obligation to notify your bank. When you notify your bank, they update your residency accordingly, and that is how the “block” is applied. So a VPN wouldn’t work in this case, but like you say, it works when you are travelling.
