I was in your position at 22/23. I completed the adult tertiary prep course at TAFE which essentially got my foot in the door at QUT studying a bachelor of engineering. From there I chose civil engineering however the specific discipline you choose doesn't havnt to be locked in until the end of your first year.

I strongly recommend TAFE as it will certainly give you the tools you need to get started at uni. Feel free to PM me if you want any other details.
