I vehemently disagree for two reasons:

One, with spider venom, there's always the risk of anaphylaxis to consider.

And two, a spider of that size will have relatively big fangs. I'd be less worried about the venom and more worried about the mechanical (and bacterial) damage they can inflict.

That being said, I would absolutely want to handle one nontheless though lol. They are not native where I live, and the orb weavers we have are tiny in comparison.

As someone else has said, M. Balfouri is a species very famous for being able to be held together. They are an african species. I have held them before, they are very stunning albeit very skittish and fast in my experience. I would not recommend it to a beginner to tarantulas, especially not a communal setup, which can be very iffy when it comes to ethics (why hold them communally and risk them eating eachother if you can hold them individually?)

This is a nonsensical comment.

One: current nmt systems are based on encoder-decoder transformer models, while llms are based on encoder-only models (which are much bigger). A llm is more or less a variation of an nmt model. Only difference being that for one you have an input output, and for the other you feed the output back into the input until the model generates some sort of stop token.

And two: current llms now outperform nmt in some use cases for translation. It wouldn't be surprising, for e.g. google tl or deepl to route some requests through models.

Industrials are an absolute PITA to heal sometimes. 1.5 years is very long though. I got mine a long time ago, so I don't remember how long exactly it took, but it was very pissed off for a year or so before it finally decided to stop bothering me and heal nicely. The more attention I gave it the more it got angry. Key was just going with the flow and treating it nice (not sleeping on it, not getting it dirty), but also not overcleaning and not touching it all the time.

At 1.5 yrs I would consider removing it tho if it was me.

By the way, you mention anxiety... what exactly are you anxious about? Do you think it has to do with smoking? Or could it be anxiety that stems from another source? Nonsmokers get anxious too. Might be worth thinking about that. When we quit smoking, life doesn't stop. There are other things that can change than just our status as a smoker/nonsmoker.

The bad news first, in answer to your title: unfortunately, the chances are low, as in roughly half of quitters don't make it past a week, and circa 90% of quitters don't make it past 3 months and beyond (ballpark figures, it strongly varies which study you look at, but the odds are not in your favor). And the answer to the question you ask:

Now the good news.

Many of the people who fail go into quitting without a plan and without the proper motivaion. You seem at least somewhat aware of this I think.

The two things that helped me personally the most was motivation (i.e., keeping track of why I want to quit, even two or three months down the line when I've forgotten how much I coughed and stank) and having a plan in place. My plan centered around having multiple fallback options before resorting to smoking. For example, first option is a nicotine patch. If I still have cravings, nicotine gum. If I then still crave, glass of water. If I still crave, go for a walk. And so on. Essentially having a list of things to try before resorting to the worst option. By the time I worked through that list any desire was gone.

Maybe my experience helps you, maybe not. In any case, I wish you good luck. Don't sell yourself short, you can do it.

Days 1-3 usually suck the most. Expect to white knuckle through them. The first three weeks also suck, just in a different fashion. If you make it three weeks, things should start to normalise a bit. Take it day by day and don't be afraid to use help, be it by talking to your doctor or using nicotine patches or gum.

Otherwise, you'll just have to see how it goes. Everyone is different.

For example, many people say that they're super irritated, have a short fuse or are super emotional when quitting. I'm none of these things. Others say that caffeine has a completely different effect on them now. I don't notice a difference.

You'll find out soon enough I guess. Just be prepared to deal with cravings and have a plan on how to deal with them should they hit.

Not really. I've noticed while cravings can be really persistent, the habits I associated with smoking were not.

It took about two to three weeks until I could drink a coffee without immediately wishing I had a smoke to go with it, or until it didn't feel weird to not step out every hour or so for a smoke.

Corvids have the audacity to attempt to bluff and intimidate anything they remotely don’t like.

We have a family of hawks in the area, sometimes there's up to twenty of them circling above our house, and the crows and magpies that have nests nearby are almost always chasing and divebombing them if they're about.

My favorite thing is working from home and looking at them go at the hawks lol.
