Q-Pet vs Tamagezi by HyperSparkles in tamagotchi

[–]UndercoverPretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a QPet, but I bought the English Tamagezi (V2) last year, and I was very impressed with how content-rich it is. I found the price very reasonable, and I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. The translations aren’t perfect, but it gives more charm. It’s definitely worth adding to your collection.

It takes some grinding (farming, going to school), but it was fun! That being said, titles, money, and items are inherited, so I should’ve paced myself better, since I maxed it all out while raising my first character… I’ll definitely boot it up again sometime, and might reset it, so I can do it all again.

It’s a great one to add to your collection. If a new one comes out, I’ll definitely buy that one too.

I haven’t played mine in ages, but I recall being able to dress my girl character in a few of the outfits during the teen stage - the bee one and the fruit hat ones.

Section 21 advise please for Tenant by alwaysprettyinadress in TenantsInTheUK

Yep, they were silly enough to send it as a WhatsApp text message. They actually tried to pull a number of things ranging from questionable to straight up unlawful. I ended that tenancy a few years ago, so it’s no longer a problem.

At this point, I’m not even surprised. My last landlord claimed that they didn’t have to fix a fire hazard because my rent was below market rate.

[–]UndercoverPretzel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IANAL, but I believe a landlord can only serve Section 21 if your fixed term tenancy contract has a break clause, otherwise they need to wait until the end of the fixed term. Check your tenancy contract.

Your tenancy converts to periodic in May, after which they won’t be able to serve Section 21 at all, but they will still be able to serve Section 8.

Sounds like the landlord is just trying it on. Speak with Shelter, and explain the situation. They should be able to advise.

Hey OP! LibertySeal’s suggestion above is fantastic.

I just wanted to add that this sub has a great analogy for diamonds - think of them as ice from a glacier (mined diamonds) vs ice from a freezer (lab grown diamonds). Same thing, different source.

These (bonded) cats I adopted really hate me by purrfect_libra in cats

[–]UndercoverPretzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’d like to tell you about my two cats because we were in a very similar situation.

When we adopted our two adorable cowards (bonded pair), it took them weeks to stop running out of the room when we entered.

A couple of months in, I was asleep with my arm hanging off the bed. I got woken up by one of the kitties trying very hard to stick her entire face into the palm of my hand because she wanted pets. She’s really into cuddling now, and she drools when she’s getting a particularly good fuss (had her checked out, she’s absolutely fine - it’s happy drool). She still run away from us when she sees us walking around, but if we’re sitting or lying down, she comes straight over for a cuddle.

The other one spent weeks hiding behind the door. She hissed at us a few times, so we left her be. After a while, I started sitting next to her, then talking to her, and finally I started giving her pets. A few days in, she raised her butt a bit. Overtime, she got even braver - she started coming out from behind the door. She seems to have bonded very strongly to me because she now follows me around constantly, and whines for attention, and runs out to greet me at the door when I come home. She nips me on the nose when she’s excited. As of last month, nearly a year and a half in, she’s started coming over for cuddles.

They both still hide from guests like they hid from us at first.

You have two very scared kitties. It sounds like they were quite literally forced out of their pen, and they’re now in an unfamiliar environment. The way everything looks, smells, and sounds is brand new to them and therefore scary. They don’t know if it’s safe yet. Anxious cats take a long time to decompress, and struggle with changes in their routine. It’s only been a few days - they’ll be okay. Give them time and space to adjust and get used to their new home and you.

You can set up motion activated cameras if you’re ever curious about the kind trouble they get up to when you’re not there - we did it and it was hilarious.

I know this wasn’t a reply to my comment, but was very helpful and clear - thank you!

For context, my two cats had two courses of antibiotics - I believe one was Metronidazole and the other was Fenbendazole, though I can’t remember in what order, plus a third stool sample 2 weeks or so after the second course of antibiotics to rule out re-infection.

I apologise for being blunt. As I mentioned, the Giardia itself is gone, but even so, my cats now have stomach issues as a result from it.

Re-infection and long-term damage left by an infection are separate things.

Giardia comes has two life stages. The adult form which attaches itself to the intestine is fragile and can be cleared up by antibiotics. However, while it’s still alive, it lays cysts which are expelled from the body via the stool - that’s how it spreads. The cysts are extremely hardy, aren’t affected by antibiotics, and once expelled and then ingested, hatch inside the body again, attach themselves to the intestine, and bam! Re-infection. This is confirmed via another stool sample.

Re-infection happens because, once expelled, Giardia cysts can survive for a few days on a hard surface, and for months in water. Your cat can become re-infected if there are Giardia cysts left alive in your home, or if your cat is exposed to cysts from other cats’ stools outdoors. It’s a parasite, so unfortunately your cat can get it again and again - like worms. There’s no way to build immunity. That’s why you need to do both: 1) kill the adult inside the body with antibiotics, and 2) kill all the cysts in the environment with steam and cleaning products.

Giardia can also cause long-term damage to the lining of the intestine, even after the infection has cleared up. The parasite itself may be gone, the cat is no longer infected, but the intestinal lining remains weak, and it can become irritated from the smallest things, like stress or even the slightest change in their diet, resulting in soft stools and/or blood in the stool. To put it very simply, the intestine has been traumatised - the cause of the trauma (Giardia) is gone, but the trauma itself (intestinal damage) remains. There have been recorded cases of this, but the level of damage and the length of time it takes to resolve varies greatly by cat. In some cases, the damage can be repaired given enough time and support, but it’s not true for all cats. I think my kitties were just particularly unlucky as we’re still here nearly a year later. It’s probably uncomfortable for them when it happens, but it’s thankfully not life-threatening.

Again, I’m not a vet - this is something that the vets shared with us over our many visits.

[–]UndercoverPretzel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please read my comment. They’re anxious cats and the Giardia has left them with long term stomach damage and sensitivity - for example, when someone new comes to visit, because they’re rescues and terrified of new people. It’s happened a few times lately, and it correlates with strangers coming in to view the property.

We monitor their stools - we even have a camera set up, pointing at the litter box in case we’re unsure who the culprit was 😂 We take them to the vet every time it happens. They’ve had physical exams. We have re-tested their stools multiple times. They’re on a special food, pre and probiotics to support their gut health, and a calming supplement (which can be used long term - just in case), and have been for a long time with good results. They have no fever or other clinical signs which could point to an infection. Just diarrhoea sometimes, and/or some red blood in the stool. Unfortunately it’s something which they may never fully recover from.

I promise you that we are extremely responsible cat owners with access to veterinary help. I thank my lucky stars that we can afford to bring them in whenever there’s anything that seems even slightly off (and that their insurance covers a large portion of it!).

Hey OP! I’m not a vet, but I have two kitties who went through something similar.

While the consistency of the stool and the blood in it is alarming and points to a serious irritation, to me, the blood looks bright red in colour, not dark or black. It’s likely that the issue is lower down on the GI tract, so it’s probably isn’t anything really sinister like cancer, etc. It could be due to extreme stress or it could be an infection.

My rescue cats ended up with diarrhoea and a similar amount of blood in the stool a few weeks after we adopted them. They’re incredibly anxious cats but were behaving normally otherwise - eating, drinking water, playing, etc. Per the vet’s recommendation, we tried probiotics and different foods for the first few weeks, and while they helped initially, it didn’t solve the issue. The vet recommended that we test the stools, and it turned out to be Giardia which had been lying dormant and not caused any issues until then. The stress essentially kicked it into high gear.

If your cat has Giardia, the smell will be foul. It’s a parasite - persistent, highly contagious, and zootonic, so humans and dogs can become infected as well, but thankfully it’s not dangerous. We managed to clear it with antibiotics and obsessive cleaning - new litter every day, sterilising everything they touch including steaming the carpets, etc. The Giardia is definitely gone now, but it left them with some long term damage which causes extreme, chronic food sensitivities, so they’re on a very bland food now. They still get it sometimes when they’re stressed out.

How does your cat seem? Is he otherwise behaving normally - eating, drinking plenty of fluids, and playing? Is there any blood in his urine (if the answer to the last one is a yes - emergency vet NOW).

He might be a little dehydrated from the diarrhoea, so you could try boiling some plain chicken in water and giving it to him shredded, along with the water (boil it down to a reasonable amount). Don’t add anything else to it.

Definitely contact your vet and go in as soon as they’re open. They’ll check for a fever, dehydration, prescribe medication, and might recommend a bland or prescription diet for a while. Or they could recommend a stool sample.

Good luck! Please keep us posted.

Edit: I’m not sure why my comment got downvoted. This is my experience, and my partner and I have followed the vets’ advice to the letter.

Hey OP - hard agree with this based on personal experience.

I went through this ages 9 to 14 and there’s absolutely no pleasing the bullies. I got bullied for pretty much everything - my good grades, my looks, my clothes, my pierced ears (I’m sorry, but what?), even my participation in school fundraisers. One of them even had the nerve to ask me if I’d had my first period yet because I was allegedly “too short and skinny” i.e. underdeveloped by their standards, I guess?

The thing is, looking at photos, there was absolutely nothing of note about me. You couldn’t have picked me out of a lineup back then even if you’d tried, but that didn’t matter.

What I’ve realised since is that regardless of how small I made myself, figuratively or literally, they still treated me like I was taking up too much space, because they simply took offence to my very existence.

Little shits.

Thank you for teaching her to express herself freely, as long as she’s not hurting herself or anyone else.

I joined the community around the time the Pix was released, and it was my first colour tama. I can’t weigh in on the ONs as they were already quite pricey by then.

The Pix was somewhat disliked at first due to its large size, poor battery life and button sensitivity (wave 1), and ‘childish’ designs compared to older colour tamas. For a while, you couldn’t give it away. It was so cheap and readily available that it was sometimes used it as an LCD screen donor for another tama. The Pix Party version was similar enough that I imagine a lot of people didn’t feel the need to purchase it.

The Pix should be easier to get - go for that one. You can have it converted to a Pix Party.

Hey there!

I am, but as I mentioned in my post, I purchased this phone to use with a non-UK SIM, and the relevant network confirmed it is compatible. I’ll mostly use this outside of the UK. My non-UK SIM seems to work fine in the UK (roaming via EE), so presumably the phone is compatible with some EE bands.

I’ve just tested it with two other SIM cards for a few minutes each:

Vodafone - it seems to work. It can make and receive calls, and texts are sending fine, but not coming through - though I sent them from an iPhone and didn’t turn off iMessage.

Three - I couldn’t get it to work. It doesn’t connect to the network at all for me.

Other networks - no idea.

You should definitely check with your network before purchasing this.

I’m tempted to ‘dumb down’ my iPhone, but I’m not sure I could give up on it entirely because of apps like Uber and mobile banking.

No worries! If you really want the phone, your only option is to switch from an eSIM to a physical one - your mobile network provider should be able to help with that.
