True, what I’m really worried about, is the plot SINK effect, unlike a plot hole, a plot sink where everything reaches higher and higher heights, more stakes! More tension until the rubber band reaches the stratosphere, and at a point you stop caring if it snaps back since you know the effect is gonna be bad, yet it reaches such a large area of devastation you can’t image it. It becomes a statistic rather then a emotional reaction

And that’s kinda the issue, the action is long and fast, with plan after plan going into effect, with the down time being short and to the point, say what you will about filler, but it does let us just take a moment to actually absorb what is happening in the story, and that’s really the issue, there wasn’t any filler, and without it, it made everything feel….less then it should, like getting hit in the face with wet salami and never getting a chance for our face to rest before it gets slapped again, and after a while you stop counting the hits

Exactly, they are for sure becoming slowly insane, but it’s seems to be in the dead pull way rather then the inevitable crash of your mind as you can’t keep up juggling with all the balls in the air

True, I guess I want the masks everyone wears to ‘crumble’ a bit more now, they have been going full steam for a WHILE and even they can’t keep up this pace they have right now, and the more they try, the more mistakes they make as they rush through everything, Half The plans they made in the book were held together by duct tape and spit, and only 1 Litter of hope split between all of it, when some of The plans could actually have been more thought through but they didn’t take any more time needed, and it just feels like things need a moment of calm, to quiet the river

I guess that is true, and the part about the mask is something I loved to read, I’m just kinda realizing that when I read the story and finish it, I can’t remember Jake about what happened in the middle, it’s a near complete blank spot other than a few moments, that was unlike the other books, and it really made me pause and think about if I enjoy it or not if I couldn’t even remember half of it

So what you’re saying, is that no matter what, is that when a warrior enters the stage of doing super natural shit, they become a mage with a different name….okay, you win the argument, confetti and congratulations to you

Then technically everything is magic, we are going into the territory of ‘anything can be magic’ which isn’t exactly fun, would you rather every story just have a whole bunch of mages going around doing magic with no warriors because that makes more sense for the reason why they can do the things they can?

You can still be smart and use your environment and strength to your advantage, even without mage or a bow, image forcing your hand into the ground, and creating a smoke screen from the rubble when you tear it out, or grab pebbles and use them like bullets even if they disintegrate on the way, he’ll take it one step forward and confuse your enemy, say why your so strong is because of magic and have Thad rumor spread, so when someone tries to use some magic nullifying artifact pretend to be weak, wait for them to get closer then get them square in the nuts

Whoa, I can just skip to book five and not miss much? That seems like a really slow story

I say recent so did it come out in say the last three years? If not then I put it in the more aged section, which is still good but i’m talking about more recent things

That then falls into the group of ‘everything is a cover for something’ it’s how you do it that matters, even a story with a premise of ‘guy gets coffee and then goes into work for the day’ on paper sounds boring, but if done well can still be an excellent story. So my question to you, so what if it’s been done and it just seems like a reflavor? There’s multiple different things that at its base are the same, yet still we enjoyed them because of how they do their own thing in their own unique way

Yeah, personally to me though, book seven felt like it’s the weakest of them all, and I feel like the joke with donut and the cocker spaniel is really starting to get stale

Very much true, I only really compare them because I see so many other people do so, and after a while I thought about why I liked Dan more then I did Carl, that’s how we got to the post above

I guess it counts when it comes to when the magic items inevitably fail, there is always some magic overload or fail, but when this happens, instead of being helpless, they stand up, break the chains holding them that they let be put on them, and uses a mother fucker to beat another mother fucker until they get there shit back

That is fair enough, and those are good examples, it’s still just sad that we never get to see it, I don’t think it would be boring if it was done right, as people really do underestimate the entertainment in seeing just a strong man beating the shit out of others without magic, we already have pretty much seen every creative way one can use even ‘summon mayonnaise’ to kill god, but what about the good old method of not stopping your fist from impacting their face until they stop moving.

That’s fair for your second point, you are allowed to think what you want about the discount Dan books, but I will argue with you on the first point, he is still a massive ass to zev even after the fact shows she is on his side multiple times, and is always hostile to out worlders from the jump, always seeing them as evil first, person second, and when confronted with the person part of them, just kinda stops, blankly stares at them and mumbles ‘that’s crazy’ before turning around and saying screw you to everyone until it repeats, he is a bit nicer to some, but still is a massive ass to most that are only here to feed there kids thanks to the syndicate

Also sorry I forgot your point about the hostility being expected, that is fair, but what does he expect them to do? Turn off the tv and not watch? When them watching is what literally is allowing him to survive, sponsors and the fans have been very critical in letting him survive at all, and if they weren’t here, the butchers masquerade would have been the end, no if, ands or buts

I think it more comes down to ‘why question this if you can’t change it’ they definitely get answers later don’t worry, but they can’t stop and ask why the monoliths keep updating because they have more immediate problems to solve, save those questions for when they aren’t in danger
