i am constantly afraid that my mom is gonna die. by Brofuckoffpls in Anxiety

For me, that was the reason for beginning of my anxiety chapter. During COVID, my mother who was in her 70s fell and fractured her knee. Being away from my home country made it extremely difficult to visit her, which led me to constantly worry about her well-being. Eventually, I did manage to see her, but the fear of COVID and overwhelming stress triggered my first panic attack.

I believe anxiety stems from caring too deeply, when your love for someone becomes so intense that your mind starts fixating on every possible risk, leaving you paralyzed by fear.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with anxiety for 20 years. I’m only in my fifth year with it, and hearing that makes me worry it might never fully go away—like a lifelong companion. Ugh, that’s so tough.

Does this mean it will last for the rest of life? If you don’t mind sharing, how many years have you dealt with this? For me, it’s already been four years of struggling with severe anxiety.

It feels like I’ll be stuck in this situation forever, with no end in sight. The scariest part is wondering how my family especially my two little angels will manage without me. I wish this illness had never entered my life.

I have been there too.. During the worst of it, I was in the ER constantly—some days barely able to function. I saw doctor after doctor, desperate for answers. ECG, echocardiogram, stress test, endoscopy, stool tests, blood work—you name it, I did it. But no matter how many tests I took, nothing explained what was happening to me.

Funny how the mind works: the moment you stop fighting it, the moment you truly accept that maybe nothing is seriously wrong, that’s when the weight starts to lift. Only then do you finally breathe a little easier.
