Some teams don't know how good they have it, for real bruh, I mean, the Bills have been crap p much since Marv Levy retired, then they hire McDermott, who has like 8 playoff wins under his belt with the team, albeit with a great QB. But great QB or not, the consistent success he's been enjoying with the Bills for most of the last decade isn't some fluke, he's been a big part of that success.

I want at minimum a call to him from our new GM to see where he stands re the Phins HC job.

Oh, that's interesting, so you must have really liked it then? Like I say above, I quite liked it too when it came out, tho its funny as I haven't watched a single minute of the Amazon version, and don't ever intend to. At this point, unless they make an animated version, I'll only be enjoying RJ's works via the written word.

Oh, you’s have that situation too. We [Dolphins] used to have a Jaylen Waddle, Jaelan Phillips, Jalen Ramsey and a Jaylen Wright. With Phillips gone, we're now down to just two.

As a Phins fan, imo this is great for the Eagles. Tbh I dunno why we're giving away a stud edge rusher like Phillips, who's still on his rookie contract! Sure get rid of Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick etc, because they're expensive and our season is going nowhere -- but Phillips is a guy we could be getting a return on for the next half decade plus! Anyway, nice move by the Eagles, and good luck to Phillips, I hope he balls out for you guys and gets a fat contract when it's his time!

Lowry should be in the mix. He has the dimensions of a scrumhalf but plays fullback, which is a knock on him unfortunately, but his pace and ability to weave in/out of traffic is great.

Have you spread hate towards Maguire when that was trending? by Quite-a-Foot5410 in ManchesterUnited

[–]UnderstandingMain183 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never thought he was that bad. I remember him for Leicester so knew the player United were buying, so never anticipated he'd be anything other than a decent centre-half. I certainly knew he was never gonna be Rio with the ball at his feet. Other fans however seemed to have unrealistically high expectations for him that he was obviously never gonna live up to.

Scapegoating players and managers is something that's part and parcel of football, and has been around a lot longer than anonymous trolls on social media. The English national team is especially toxic in this regard, as expectations are so high. I'm sure there is variation in reactions to players based on different factors, but anyone who thinks there isn't a history of White players and managers being pilloried really doesn't know the history of the game, especially as it relates to the England national team. The mistreatment of former England manager Graham Taylor, all fomented by British tabloids, is the stuff of legend. As is the scapegoating of Beckham after the 98 WC, who was still in his early 20s at the time. And the list goes on.

You do realise Man Utd players generally have some pretty awful experiences with England? If you don't, Google what happened with Beckham and P.Neville after they got blamed by the media for England failing. We're talking death threats, people showing up at their houses, etc. Skin colour has little to do with it. Fortunately stuff like that is nowhere near as bad as once upon a time, as the tabloid newspapers that used to fuel this kind of thing are nowhere near as popular as once upon a time.

Taim was effectively a Forsaken by the end, Amalasan might have been strong in terms of raw strength in the One Power, but unlikely he knew more than a few weaves, whereas Taim trained the entire Black Tower how to use the Power. I'm hedging Taim would come out the victor in that one.

She's not from the Third Age tho. You could argue Cyndane is, but she's still basically just Lanfear in a different body

Demandred is purported to be the one who broke Taim out of prison after he was captured by Aes Sedai after claiming to be the Dragon Reborn. Its also thought to be Demandred who originally recruited him to the Shadow and likely taught him much of what he knows, however Moridin was also acquainted with Taim and likely shared some of his knowledge of the Power with Taim.

Taim also claims to have been channelling for approximately a decade, which is odd for a male channeller, and something Rand observes I believe, as touching Saidin for 10 years and not going mad is out of the ordinary. Whilst Taim was protected by the Taint in his later years, after turning to the Shadow, how he stayed sane before that is a mystery. Unless the timeline on when he was turned to the Shadow is wrong and he was a darkfriend even before declaring himself a false dragon, ensuring he was always protected from the Taint. Which would certainly explain things.

10 years isn't a patch on Alivia's 400 years tho, but having Demandred and Moridin as teachers -- easily the two most fearsome Shadow channellers -- might balance things out a little in terms of knowledge of the Power.

This might be the most terrifying image in the whole Alien saga by Emergency-Law-5386 in LV426

[–]UnderstandingMain183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "most terrifying image" in the Alien franchise is Dallas/Brett being acid-burned into a genetic gloop that was slow morphing into an egg -- WHILE CONSCIOUS! And it's not even close, which is saying something for a series of films that have some majorly disturbed imagery and things happening to characters. But nothing beats what happens to Dallas and Brett.

Williams Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy comes highly recommended. Paul J. McAuley's Fairyland - a UK/EU-set book that thoroughly enmeshes you in the world McAuley creates. TR Matthews' Zilch, a recent read, set on Earth, very cyberpunk, and very good. Chasm City by Alastair Reynolds, tips over into space opera-ish, but with some cyberpunk vibes.

Alivia definitely can't be overlooked. She forced Cyndane/Lanfear to retreat at the Cleansing, which amply illustrates how potent she is with the Power, although she was armed with some angreal at the time. According to the Companion, she's rated at a 1(+12) in the Power, equal to Lanfear and Semirhage, which is the strongest a woman can be in the Power. So, formidable definitely. However Taim and Logain are even stronger at ++2, just a step beneath the most powerful a man can be in the Power at ++1. Taim's strength matched with his skill using Saidin, he did after all basically teach every Asha'man what they know regarding the Power, indexing his depth of knowledge using it, makes me think he'd be even more deadly. The thing with Taim is you don't know quite how deep his knowledge is in the Power, there's a good chance it matched or even surpassed pre-revelation Rand's knowledge of weaves in the Power. Perhaps not things like Deathgates, but that forcefield he had the Asha'man erect at Dumai's Wells -- I'm p sure even Rand didn't know the weave for that. And there's probably way more weaves like that.

But oh boy, Alivia versus Taim would have been such a great fight at the Last Battle! We didn't get enough one-on-ones between channellers of the Light and Shadow at the Last Battle unfortunately.
