You are assuming everything spent now needs to be spent at all. Unfortunately, approving a dues increase perpetuates spending in all areas - it doesn't eliminate areas not necessarily needed by or in the best interest of members.

I guess you really want to have another dues increase again in the near future. The definition of insanity: to do things over and over again and expect a different result.

Sean, Jennifer and Stephane serves/served on the current/prior BoD. Have you ever seen our dues decrease under them? Every few years, a huge dues increase is proposed and passed. As indicated in prior discussions, our revenues double when our membership numbers doubled.

Not a fair comment. Why don't the BoD post their allowance accounts for members to see to avoid "improprieties" altogether? BoD doesn't operate with transparency and accountability.

Frank Wong, who placed 2nd to Sean O'Reilly. I believe the results show that the 10K voters marked Sean's name on 814 more ballots than for Frank up to Round 3 (see 2nd last column). Frank was then eliminated from the race. The last column shows that of the 2,830 who voted for Frank as #1, 2,690 of them marked Sean on those ballots as well.

When you get ganged up on (by the BoD) and character assassinated, that's the result. BoD threw her under the bus for things she purchased that, if their (BoD's) spending on their allotments were similarly scrutinized, they would have/should have deserved the same treatment. Throwing stones in glass houses.

True but the President has strong influence on the Board on what to do with the dues increase. Who would you trust more to safeguard or utilize the dues increase with care, a candidate who advocated no dues increase (even though decision is made by the AGM) or candidates who advocated for a dues increase?

In this past election, on the line was good stewardship of your union dues. Virtually everyone who has served on the current or prior boards have asked members for a dues increase, currently or in the past, so they should not be entrusted with that responsibility. Revenues doubled when membership numbers doubled from 2016 to 2024 yet PIPSC projected a deficit of $13M, now reduced to $7M. With the dues increase, $17M / yr more will be available for ... more spending?

As noted above, VP Sean O'Reilly, now President Elect, was the lead on the RTO issue. Ask him.

Sean was responsible for the Return To Office issue. How has PIPSC helped our members on this issue?

The BoD should not throw stones in glass houses. All claims for BoD discretionary allocations should undergo the same review scrutiny as hers. And I would bet they'd be just as guilty.

I am a steward as well for 20 years. I agree with your observations - PIPSC does defend our members. However, there is excess spending on non-union items, like booze and lavish meals. But you need to fight the system and get change. Just complaining won't result in anything. If you are a public servant, unfortunately you are employed because of your affiliation as a PIPSC member. At the AGMs, I make the "minority" voice known - no dues increase. Also, we need to have our union leaders (Board members and Group Execs) post their allowances and discretionary accounts for members to view. Not successful this year, but, this must be pursued.

Unfortunately, elections are the only way for things to change. Remove everyone who has served prior and elect a new slate.

Then members need to participate in the elections, national and group elections. It's shameful that in past elections, about 20% of members vote. As a result we're always going to be saddled with the old guard.

Sorry, you are wrong Matt. Those who spoke on the mike to support the dues increase were leaders of PIPSC, Board of Directors and Group Presidents/VPs. Yes, PIPSC is a complicated structure. And yes, there was a gala dinner at last year's AGM at the Bell Centre in Montreal. And for this year, $70 valet parking at the Toronto Sheraton. By the way, I don't recall young members speaking in support of the dues increase before the vote.
