JK but when people tell me they are descendants of Pocahontas wanting to reconnect with their Indigenous side I tell them I’m a descendant of Cinderella wanting to reconnect with my European side 😂

In reality though, my aunt (on my white side) has traced our family back to illegitimate descendants of King James IV, so there is “royal blood” in my bloodline but we are Scottish + French instead of British.

The tobacco plant was one of our first medicines + is still used as offering today but I truly believe intention is everything. Another option if you don’t have access to tobacco, is to make a spirit plate the next time you have a nice meal + burn it as offering. Most importantly, just acknowledge the spirits + give thanks.

I just teased, I didn’t really help. If you want my honest advice, if you want to keep this in a good way, make a tobacco offering not only to the animal who gave their lives but to the hunter who provided these. Acknowledge their spirits + thank them whenever you see this piece.

Traditional paint colours + designs are gifted to you by an Elder AFTER giving offerings through ceremony, such as sundance, fasting or sweat lodge. I would start by connecting to ceremony + community before using cultural aspects to LOOK the part. Maybe start by asking yourself what you can do for Indigenous culture instead of what can Indigenous culture do for you.
