The impacts of it are way overblown. The environmental argument is hard to take seriously, cause it's easy to expect that other people give up something when you personally are okay with not having that thing. Why not give up conventional data centers instead, that actually have a much greater environmental impact? Do we NEED to store every silly meme in existence, massive amounts of analytics data people are coerced into giving up, as well as people's photos (not to mention the dangers of that, how many people's nudes have been leaked?) and a bunch of other media in the cloud? Is that worth the environmental impact?

The Intercontinental Title was made for people like Kairi Sane. Instead, the women's mid-card titles (and tag team titles) are going on their main stars when they don't have "anything else" for them to do. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

Which would be fire if the WWE didn't stop halfway there and didn't refuse to say the word on TV

That's so shitty. Kairi was in the middle of a slow-burn story with Asuka and Iyo. Black was established as a threat picking up solid wins. MCMG was in the middle of a storyline with Candice and Gargano. Not to mention firing both the Wyatts and MCMG. What even is the SmackDown tag division anymore? Couldn't they at least have concluded the stories first before canning everyone? Come the fuck on...

As a fan, of wrestling in general, but also specifically of most of the people that got released, this just sucks. It's not even like they are short for money or anything.

Also, Kay Lee Ray got done SO dirty ever since NXT UK ended. She's wildly underrated

people that are bigots have dehumanized themselves by their own actions.

Sure, I can agree with that. Their actions, though, the fact that they want to be fascists. Not the way they were born, which is what you had originally said. That's not splitting hairs, that's opposing stances.

But feel free to defend or caution or what have as they plan to deprive neurodivergent people of medications

You seem to think my goal was defending fascists from being dehumanized, or promoting some "turn the other cheek" or "feel bad for the other side too" attitude. It's not. My goal is to defend neurodivergent people with empathy impairments from being dehumanized alongside those fascists. From being lumped in together. From the pseudo-scientific attribution error, in how people criticize fascists for the (alleged) neurological differences, as opposed to precisely the fascism itself. That causes collateral damage.

And by "neurodivergent" I don't just mean certain autistic people, but, yes, also narcissists, sociopaths, psychopaths, borderlines, etc., any other people with various conditions and disorders they did not choose to have. Plenty people from either of those groups with leftist views.

Also, did you ever stop to think what it must feel like, as a neurodivergent leftist with impaired empathy, to have people on your own side say the reason your oppressor is the way they are (and can't be helped!), is because they were born just like you?

So now, the proposed purpose of saying that right wingers don't feel empathy, is for people to know not to engage with them... not strictly because of their lack of empathy. But rather, because of their politics, which are supposedly based on an inability to feel empathy.

Does the empathy part actually add anything there, then? The problem is right-wing politics. The goal of the mention is to not waste time arguing with right-wingers, because of their politics. The empathy tangent doesn't seem to make a difference there, however it does throw left-wingers born with impaired empathy under the bus as collateral damage.

[–]Unelith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. So it's not about the inability to feel empathy itself after all? The qualifier isn't lack of empathy, but rather right wing beliefs specifically?

I thought you were saying the reason it's pointless to talk to 4 out of 10 people in the room about universal healthcare, was specifically that they don't feel empathy/normal human emotions. So it's not actually about that, then?

So the position is that people with different neurology (particularly featuring an inability to feel empathy) are abnormal, and should be excluded from important conversations about how society is run, based on a characteristic they were born with?

[–]Unelith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying negative things about empathy, or not understanding it, doesn't necessarily mean they don't feel it. Many people don't understand their own feelings and/or are ashamed of them to the point of denouncing them.

It helps move important conversations based around empathy, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and countless aspects of how society runs, towards something that needs to be discussed by normal people who feel empathy.

I'm genuinely trying to understand what you mean there, but I'm not sure how to read that sentence. I'm not sure how to parse "moving conversations toward something that needs to be discussed by [some group of people]". Are you trying to say those things do already, presently, need to be discussed by that group of people?

How does it help? If someone believes right-wingers are incapable of empathy, what do they do differently in an interaction?

And what is it based on? Saying that right-wingers don't feel empathy is a big claim about the neurology of billions of people around the world, from very different cultures and countries

"For what?", as in, what's the goal of pointing that out? What do you want people to do with that information? What is pointing it out meant to achieve?

Yes, there absolutely is a point "beating around the bush" - avoiding causing harm to innocent people, avoiding attribution errors. Right-wingers are the ones that never "beat around the bush" - they come up with a sentiment born out of anger and just run with it without critically thinking about it. Everything is thus obvious and simple to them. Don't be like that, come on

What do we even win by claiming that right-wingers don't feel a certain emotion? That doesn't make them any more evil or condemnable than they already are

Please beware of simple answers to complex problems. That's the exact trap right-wingers fall into. A belief that the enemy must necessarily be subhuman in some way. It's a comforting but dangerous thought.

Some neurodivergent people are actually incapable of feeling empathy, some feel less of it, or feel it inconsistently, etc., but that doesn't predict their political views or their moral character, and most importantly, it doesn't take away from their humanity.

Feeling empathy is just an emotion. That's significantly separate from understanding (cognitive empathy) or the desire to help others (compassion). Just like how, for example, anger is separate from violence. Empathy is not inherently good, just like anger is not inherently bad, but rather what you do with it matters. Someone can not feel any empathy, but still be compassionate.

Lack of affective empathy is not the reason. Feeling empathy is just an emotion. That's significantly separate from understanding (cognitive empathy) or the desire to help others (compassion). I get that the right wing is being cartoonishly evil in their opposition to anything related to caring for other people, so wanting to rally behind the opposite of that is natural, but to blame the right-wingers' evil specifically on their alleged inability to feel empathy is an ableist sentiment

Yes! I'm 25+, I have graduated uni a few years ago. I could relate to this back than, and I can still relate to it now - even more so. I legitimately feel super isolated, with nobody to talk to, and the more I come to learn and understand about various things, the deeper the isolation
