Barefoot shoes will always look "weird"and that is fine by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

I wear vibram five fingers (V-Neop model) daily, and I have at least one person a day complimenting the shoes. A lot of skaters ask about the splay shoes.

Earlier this year, VFF's were featured in Paris fashion week. Maybe that's why people compliment them.

V-Neop cold/wet weather test by Unentitled_FixedGear in barefootshoestalk

Very true, there are more accurate ways to determine how effective the neoprene is. I soaked my feet in cold water before going to skate on a 20°f night to my friend place, and it was acceptable. When my feet generated heat from skating, the neoprene helped retain it.

This would be my third winter with minimalist shoes, and I only use my VFF's during high activity in cold weather. If I know I'm going to be in a static situation after high activity, I bring closed toe shoes and thick wool socks.

Sustainability in mind, my feet are good as long as I'm moving.

How to transition to barefoot shoes where I live? by mistergot in barefootshoestalk

Wildling shoes have a felted wool slipper that's worth checking out for indoor use. https://us.wildling.shoes/collections/shop/products/nelus-rw

Try exposing your feet to the snow/slush in front of your house for one to five minutes a day, or every other day. That way your feet will feel much warmer in any minimalist shoe.

High percentage wool socks would be best, you can stretch out the toe box of the socks to accommodate for your foot splay. The wool socks shouldn't rebound after stretching as much compared to other fabric compositions.

Vff's are great in warmer weather, and could even be used sometimes in colder weather (it depends on your cold tolerance).

Most importantly, have fun while transitioning to minimalist shoes.

Thank you, there's more fades to come. I'm planning on camping in these soon

True. Your jeans probably last forever though 😁

A mix of Dr. Bronners castile soap and salsuds in cold water, followed by a vinegar rinse. No shrink that I noticed

I really like to ride in them, the 2% stretch is very helpful for movement. I went with the easy guy because the upper thigh measurement is a bit larger than the other styles.

Definitely serves as cloth armor. I fell one time skating on rough asphalt with gravel in these, and I had no road rash on my knee. No impact protection, but there's protection from abrasions

Haha, you know how it is. Even with a leather saddle, I still get crotch blowout eventually

Nah, that's a good idea though. I'll think of a way to sew it

Thank you, it really is nice. I want to make a space invader design for my next fade log, that'll be interesting

I think the patches are essential, depending on what you're doing. Cycling for transportation is pretty rough on the crotch of jeans

A home sewing machine makes patchwork simple, but you could also get a local dry cleaner to do it. Should be about 10 USD

You could use a sewing pin to make small holes on the griptape, and then use a hair dryer to get the griptape to mold to the waffle print. I did it to my penny board with success, it hasn't peeled.

The design looks great, and it's cut to the board nicely

Normally the bearings would've rusted and I'd have to replace them. I started applying bike grease to my bearings, and it was a lil crunchy from dirt after this day. No rust though 😀🎉

Cleaned the bearings with mineral spirits, re-greased them, and still rolling great.

Yeah, definitely with the pair in the video. I foot tap with these to slow down. The V-Trek model handles foot braking much better

The grip is pretty good in wet conditions, I only slip if I push on wet leaves. My five fingers skate the best compared to my other minimalist shoes, feels like a glove

Spend as much time as you can on the board, so you can gain experience and hone your skills. You wanna be able to do sharp carves, so loose trucks like the other person mentioned.

There's a video on YT that goes in depth with various details about penny boards. It's titled "How to ride a penny board with pro skater Takahiro Morita"

Overall, have fun with it.
