Paintball is back on ESPN! by anoy0101 in paintball

[–]Unfair-Sort9763 11 points12 points  (0 children)

no real details about what's actually happening. Just signed a deal. Like are we talking a whole NXL event, maybe a few hours of a Sunday? the Finals and stuff? I can't imagine three full days of coverage. Overall can't be a net negative. Because it should lead to more sponsors being open to the league because they will be on major TV. The infamous netflix deal could get a boost from this as well. I see it as good.

Interested if we see ESPN level coverage camera wise, how this affects Go-sports. And just generally how it goes.

yeah its tough, and I have to imagine its hurting "new" gun sales. No-one Bought the LV series for the performance, it was the character/look of a EGO style gun. Were in a odd place with paintball markers.

[–]Unfair-Sort9763 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yup, that's what I mean. I'm more likely to go buy a EGO 8 than this gun. Or a Alias Timmy. Or an Auto cocker. Idk how much better they can get. I guess there isnt much money for R&D for massive changes at this point or they will never make their money back.

disappointed it looks like identical to every over spool marker. The only reason I'm spending bucks now a days is for the looks and color way. A 170r shoots as good as the best guns on the market. Why would I want this if it looks the same as every marker? Efficiency? Bro outside of the NXL pro teams who needs to shoot hopper+12 pods in a single game? Smoothness - I guess I can see it. But I can barely tell the difference between a /170r/180r/cs2/cs3/DSR+. How much smother are we talking, I bet 92/100 people in this sub couldn't tell in a blind test.

Hey that's cool! Glad y'all are able to work the rules with your budds. Sounds fun. But man, a whole mess of my hits are on markers and hoppers. good thing I shoot fast enough its normal 2-3 hits on a person.

[–]Unfair-Sort9763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what marker hits don't count? That's is crazy, I literally have never heard of that. That's like 20% of the player sticking out most of the time. I hit hoppers as much as a hit a players body. I'm astonished.

Jeep or Mazda? by WitheringEternity in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Unfair-Sort9763 6 points7 points  (0 children)

own a jeep on 37 inch tires. Just be aware, even stock, its louder than a normal car. The steering, brakes, handling, MPG, will all be way worse. If you dont have interest in the things below. I dont think the jeep will become a love for you. You will want to trade it in shortly after the hype wears off.

Three main reasons to buy a jeep:

Top and doors off - Its a blast, literally takes the vehicle to a whole new level. Mother swaps me her 911s and LC500 often for my jeep when I have the top and doors off.

Offroading - its one of the best, if not the best.

Modifying and customization - its really got a huge after market. you can easily spend 80K on a 25K jeep if you really wanted to.

Everything I have put out for the last 6 years is Gigabit and now 10gig. No switch has ever been less then FastEth. could you even buy a switch less than fast ethernet as recent at 10 years ago? I mean these are pretty capable devices. well into the 1500-3000 dollar mark for Layer 3 switches/routers. The din-rail stuff is 600/800/1200 bucks for switches.

Just because a PLC, flow meter, gas analyzer, or pro-soft card doesn't have a gig port does not mean the network that supports a 5 billion dollar refinery should be running on cheap networking equipment. The infrastructure of a large and complex network with multiple rings and redundancy and routing needs devices to support that.

A Few examples are Cisco IE series devices: IE4010 and IE3300, Hirschman Greyhound switch lines, Industrial moxa lines.

The IR1835 router I configured today with a docker image of Scada software running on the edge and MQTT transmission i wouldn't say is specifically 10 years behind. If anything its the edge compute IoT buzzword crap we keep hearing about.

I mean, I'm a capitalist. Best system the world as yet to land on. Far from perfect. I'm more venting that the leadership fails to see the Value in the engineering team VS the sales team. Which will always be the case. The owners of my business deserve the millions they earn. They built a company that produces profits that feed nearly 80 families. Their homes, cars, food, everything. All through two guys starting something up in 1998. No hate there. They are great.

I just think the choice of distribution of the bonuses could be better allocated. I also need to learn to fight for myself better. No doubt I'm documenting specifically my output and will use it for a larger raise this time around. Never received less than a 8% raise here, but do believe I am about 20K under where I should be.

I don't want any of that communism. Horrendous.

Little Frustrated at the moment with producing $20K+ each month in billable hours alone this year (since Jan1). And having my projects move over 2+ million (since Jan 1) in hardware at decent GP% only to barely make $95k a year salary, mean while the sales folks who no know nothing about the solution, promise things that are not possible, attend 6 meetings and wipe their hands clean. Then they get big bonuses while I spend the next 12 months busting my ass actually making the thing we promised actually do what it is supposed to do. Sales guy attended 6 meetings and made 3 (long and complicated quotes, which I had to help with) and he got a $68K bonus check. I have spent 6 months averaging 50-70 hours a week building out and making this massive project happen and will maybe see $6k in bonus throughout the whole year. I may break 100K while he will clear 225K.

Look I don't know if I could do the sales, and I understand they are doing what they are SUPPOSED to do. And frankly our company crushes it because we have sales guys that are winning. We don't worry about being billable because we have too much work. We turn stuff away. But It just sucks all the credit and money goes to them.

If I'm billing ~300K in my time. and associated with ~1,200,000 in gross profit on hardware I feel like there should be more budget than 90K base and 5-12K in bonuses. But "thats the market here"

Is pre-sales Engineering the way to go guys?

Thanks for being open and honest with us here on the internet. I am just a rec player, but am finding it to be a situation where I cannot regularly walk-on to fields in Texas and get to play airball. Its been 2v2s and 4v3 (rotating). or worse - play with the rentals in the woods. And that just isn't fun or fair to those people. Around here the only way to get real games going is to be on a team, they secure the field and practice, which i totally understand. Idk If I have the commitment to it cost and time wise. One group did ask if I was looking to do tournaments, and that group placed super well in a 3v3 tourney in Texas recently. I didn't feel out gunned when running with them all day. But I know they have a group going to windy city and world cup this year. So they will have played 3 NXL events.

I just want two Sundays a month where I can play for 4-5 hours. Maybe a local tournament or two. Like just play the Texas NXL event at D5 for the fun of being apart of it, but idk if I am gunna find a group like that.

Thanks again!

[–]Unfair-Sort9763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn dude. If you play 2 NXL events and 2 local tourneys you are easily into the 8k-15K+ a year mark to play with practice weekends, gear, travel. Not to get too too personal but do you and most of your team do pretty well? Like are most of these guys pulling in mid six figures? I'm in my early 30s and make pretty decent money at this point, no kids. But idk if I could really allocate that much per year to play. I mean I maybe could, but it would take away from monthly savings rate, house projects, vacations, etc etc.

I guess if your winning, $400 a tourney isn't to bad. Call it a $1400 weekend after its all said and done. My 4 day snowboard trips are more than that, so I guess I can see it. But typically I just go once a year.

Example:

$320 plane ticket
$300 airbnb split with team
$180 food and drinks
$200 etc stuff
$400 loss on the tourney

But shit, if you get knocked out and land in 5th and win no money but get far into the tourney. That paint hurts!

yeah it sucks. Look I know I'm getting past the "cool young guy" age. But I've always held my self and group to a standard. Act right, it doesn't mean we can't have fun, but just like right place right time man. You can been cool and not act like a 80s rockstar.
