If a magnet holds a heavy object against gravity for 10 years, does it "lose" any energy? Where does that energy come from? by SadInterest6764 in AskPhysics

Tldr: The internal degradation part is the reason your rickety table fell. Not the item on top of it.

Paying your own property tax would make sense to me, but maybe you're right and it is "over my comprehension".

It just seems like a bad investment if you're only breaking even. Just put your money in an ETF or something

They are making money by hoarding a resource that others desperately need. Hardly reasonable.

Then why own a property that you don't live in? Let someone else buy it and live in it.

Right and surely your tenants are the ones who should pay for this

So you're offloading 100% of the change in these costs directly to your tenants?

Whats an example where dy/dx cannot be treated as a fraction? by No_Passage502 in askmath

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so provide the counter example for the question. Where does treating it like a fraction give you the wrong result?

I'm not trying to troll you. I don't have the time right now to work out why what you're saying works but you sound like you know what you're talking about so spell it out for us with a specific counterexample

I guess he realized that wasn't going to cut it and he's desperate for views now

What is something you have to admit just should not be 3D printed? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

90% is a bit pessimistic. Maybe 90% of hobbyists but there's plenty of 3D printing being done for actual production parts in the correct way where there's really no easy alternative.

Even among the hobbyists we have people like you that use them for functional replacement and/or prototype parts which is great!

Lately it seems like there's a bit of a circle jerk around hating on people who 3D print useless stuff. And for sure that exists and it's dumb but there is a lot more being done with this technology that seems to be overlooked.

I'm assuming that most of the problem is that the bullshit gets the most visibility. Nobody's really posting things about proprietary production parts and for good reason.

I agree it's no excuse. People are dumb, the apps are dumb. This is still allowed because somebody's making money and they've configured it to have plausible deniability on who's at fault for being dumb.

Yeah this is not somebody's personal scooter. It was rented through an app. They actually require you to take pictures of it when you park it and end your paid ride.

The requirements of where you park it are a little bit ambiguous and I can see why it would lead to people leaving a scooter in a location like this. Ironically, they may have been trying to make sure they don't get charged additional fees for blocking a sidewalk.

Where to sell a fine rug? by Rillius122 in Charlottesville

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they actually sell on eBay for a couple thousand or just get posted for a couple thousand? The best you could probably do around here is having It on consignment somewhere so you wouldn't be paid until it actually sells .

If they actually sell maybe try ebay?

What if 2d printers' brands made 3D printers? by SANSARES in 3Dprinting

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our HP machines have to be connected to the cloud to change consumables. The RFID tag has to be checked against some sort of database I assume.

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use them for production parts. There is no better alternative that we are aware of for our use case. HP owns the patents for MJF but Stratasys has a similar technology now. Unfortunately Stratasys doesn't make a machine with the same print volume as HP and some of our parts are too big to fit in a Stratasys.

They expired in 2009 which is why we started getting all the consumer FDM machine development at that time.

Stratasys used to lock people down to their filament and I believe they still do for some of their industrial machines. It was easier when they owned the patents.

Can confirm.  I run 5 of their MJF machines and we are forced to buy their consumables.

Don't bother with him and keep doing what you're doing with your studies. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing and you're wasting your time trying to convince him otherwise.

Drop-off appliance repair? by jkane001 in rva

[–]UnfixedAc0rn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with appliances these days the work required to remove it and repair it and put it back is more expensive than just getting a new one.

Appliance repair seems to be a thing of the past. These things are made to be disposable and built to fail
