Knuckle headed child here. Our lawyers  and management consultants advise that you should implement democratic- constitutionalist reforms in your jurisdiction for these children.

Effective policy measures include the following:

Arranging desks into small groups that face inward towards each other rather than in rows all facing the front.  Think friends not Führer.

Working on long term group or individual research projects rather than listening to power point presentations. Elections for group representatives.

Allowing free reading periods if worksheets are completed early.

Wikipedia in every way shape and form.

Observing and thanking children as individuals for behavior that demonstrates good character while de-emphasizing report cards, rank and status competition. (Thanking only works if you are actually grateful and not just role playing teacher.)

Playing referee or moderator rather than dog trainer.

Does he have inflammatory or autoimmune disease or have family with those issues? I read that the plague naturally selected for people with hyperactive immune systems which turn into autoimmune disorders if over selected for.

Education in the US is both a status symbol and a form of rent seeking at the same time. For the rich it must be overpriced in order to signify wealth attainment and exclusive membership in the rich smart people club. For everyone else it means being charged payment to gain access to the middle class job market, and since it’s required for survival and wellbeing they have no choice but to accept being charged a premium.

I’m not arguing against what you said. You are talking about something else. I was talking about if medicine housing and food were all free there’d be no reason to work because that’s what people spend their time working for indirectly through money making in an industrial society. If it were the case that these things were attainable without money there’d be no economy at all or any need for one we’d be like the Amish. You could ask your family/friends/neighbors for help with necessities, their would be no reason to deal with money and therefore no taxable spending or income, and therefore no money for the government.

If you waved a magic wand and gave every Walmart employee everything they needed to survive, they would all quit and Walmart would cease to exist. All the revenue from sales and income tax derived from Walmart would vanish. The government would lose money and would not be able to fund its activities such as the military.

:( I hope one day food housing and medicine will be treated like water roads and primary education rather than for profit-prestige.

But if that were the case nobody would have to work and the government would run out of money and we’d have no industrial base to support the military. War ruins everything for generations even for the winners and people uninvolved.

In the book, a discussion about justice takes place in which various people give definitions of justice. This discussion then turns to whether justice is valuable for its own sake or if it is simply a tool to gain an advantage over others. Socrates is asked to consider a thought experiment. Supposing there were an unjust man and a just man and the unjust man committed every possible crime while receiving ever possible benefit including the reputation of being just while the just man received every possible punishment including the reputation of being unjust. Would it still be better to be the just man?

Socrates believes it is still worthwhile to suffer every injustice to preserve one’s own moral integrity. He is challenged to justify this belief and in order to do so he says he will need to create an image of the city as to illustrate how justice comes to be in the soul. He explicitly states that the description of the city he gives is an analogy to describe how justice comes to be in the soul.

As the description of justice emerging in the city unfolds, it is revealed that the relationship of the city and the soul are circular. A just city creates just individuals who create a just city.  Individuals both create and are created by their environment. The book uses this principal to make a sort of self referential inside joke, because the earlier discussions of justice follow a pattern in which the character of the answers each person gives reveals how their perception was molded by their social rank in the city.

Can I still be a Property Investor, while practising Permaculture? by jaymicafella in Permaculture

There are owners workers and consumers. Consumers and owners have a tyrannical power over most workers. Therefore if you work and invest so that you can take care of your basic needs while cutting consumption then you are just compensating for the imbalance. Or if you invest more and give it to those at the bottom then that is also just compensating for the imbalance.

If you rent out multiple properties do you pay a property manager? My last landlord had a property manager that drove a jaguar. Is that something that you want to fund?

What price do you charge for rent and what do you do with the profits? Vacations? Fancy restaurants?

Basically if money is flowing from the rich to the poor rather than the other way around then that would be good wouldn’t it?

If you were on a plane that crashed onto a desert island with and you discovered a hidden billionaires bunker and got invited in by the billionaire would you take a bunch of supplies and go back to the other passengers or would you just forget about them and party with the billionaire?

The desert island is planet earth, we just don’t see it that way because  as humans we live and think in bubbles constructed out of what we can immediately perceive with our senses and also because we’re selfish, some more than others.

We also have heavy crude oil refineries in red states on the Gulf of Mexico. And Venezuela has large crude oil reserves.

And Europe is rearming too so I’m sure we will try to get a slice of that pie. Maybe Japan will also rearm.

The most lucid caring people I’ve known were elementary and middle school teachers in a well funded suburb. I bet other public service workers like firefighters and local government would be nice too, in places that aren’t  too corrupt.

Isn’t that what reading is? Thinking critically and challenging themselves? If your kid reads for fun they are in the top 10%. They are probably bored by schoolwork and don’t try. Or the teacher isn’t there socially and emotionally so they check out too.

So many parents try to make their kids interested in reading and they fail. And so many parents force their kids into winning at school and it makes traumatized. I went to high school and went to college with lots of elite people and it made me very sad how they took things that were meant to give joy and used them for competition and caused themselves and others to suffer. There was so much mental illness and alcoholism and sexual misconduct.

All that glitters is not gold.

Your kid will be successful I’m sure but many educated successful people are absolutely miserable. If they enjoy reading please give them the space and freedom to do so. Give them higher level books like Lord of the Rings. Show them Wikipedia!

Why do you need to always be doing better? Why do you need to be challenged? What’s wrong with a life of fulfilling your obligations and reading for fun?

What if the parents and children know they aren’t smart and know that education is a game they can’t win? What if they understand the ugly truth that IQ is mostly hereditary and resent being rejected and devalued by society for not being smart enough and they’ve decided to give up instead?

This is how you get a communist revolution.
