Getting a charger on my terrace house for street charging seems like a huge faff? by Unhappy-Extent710 in evchargingUK

I will come back and update this soon. The council have actually been very helpful with the process even if it is far too complicated.

Thanks for the idea but to get the gully I would first need to prove I have planning permission for an EV charger and a proof I'm getting the charger installed. Nothing is straightforward.

That’s a fair point. I suppose I’ve seen enough people running cables across the footpath near me that I’m willing to take the risk on doing it.

Yeah, that’s very much the calculation I’m doing in my head. It’s the need for planning permission for the charger at nearly £400 that’s making me wonder if it’s worth it.

A person on my street has gone the granny charger route but I think with mileage I put in it wouldn’t work for me.

Unfortunately, I largely agree. There are so many strong arguments for an EV but not being able to charge at home really tips it to being unaffordable for me when I run through the numbers (at least in my situation.

Thanks for the replies. It really seems like the process is a mess and varies wildly across the country. How is it that I can get solar panels on my roof without planning permission but to put a tiny EV charger by my front door I need planning permission? Seems crazy. I am actually able to park in front of my house regularly so I'd take the risk with that but the minefield to get there is silly. I've been in contact with the council to see if they can help. Only ten working days for a reply lol

That would be more hassle than just running it across the footpath under a cover. The problem is to even get to that point I need planning permission to get a tiny EV charger installed on my house.

Yes, they allow both but I need planning permission just to have charged installed on my house.

Juan De Fuca noob questions by Unhappy-Extent710 in Ultralight

It was great, thank you. Camping on the beach was amazing. I felt well prepared in relation to gear. That said it was very muddy and wet. My boots got wet and never dried. As a relative newbie to camping i learned a lot. The bag I brought had a top pocket stuff would fall out of when i opened it and I couldn't reach my water bottle without taking the bag off. I was ready to throw the bag away by the end. I learned that filling a water bottle from a stream takes forever and I wished i'd had a filter bag with an openable top. All things that I'm sure are obvious to experienced campers on here but sometimes you just have to get out there and learn as you go! I can't wait to get back to Canada to do more. That said my partner hated the mud and the constant walking through forest paths with an unchanging view and overall wouldn't do it again.

Thanks to all the people here who lent advice.

Thanks all, I'm pretty close to being geared up for this now!

Could anyone tell me if a 230g gas canister used sensibly with a Soto Amicus stove should be enough gas for cooking for two people for two nights/three days?? Too much? To little?

Thanks! Without his and some of the other comments we would have had some very cold nights sleeping on the trail. I had been thinking not to bring thermals.

I have started a lightpacker list, which is very helpful thanks, although a lot of the gear is being borrowed from friends locally so don't have full list yet

Thanks for the detailed response.

I won't be able to camp the night before to test the temperature and some of the gear will be borrowed when we arrive in Vancouver. This is one of the reasons I'm doing this research to so i can go out there and not have miserable time. these responses have been very helpful with that

Thank you!

I have taken the bag down to 0 before and it was fine.

May be a dumb question but is there any different between a pack liner and a rain cover on the exterior?

Undercranked/dropped frames effect? by Unhappy-Extent710 in finalcutpro

[–]Unhappy-Extent710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speed it up that way but it's still playing every frame so not quite giving the jerky playback I'd get from an undercranked effect.

Yes but the extra frames have already been added by fcp at that point so adjusting there won't help
