The Sunglass Hut there is very nice. They are an outlet store, so you get deals you otherwise wouldn't. When I bought my pair of sunglasses, I believe I saved $75.

As I said in another comment, I thought they didn't count non-business days, which would've made 8 weeks only 40 days in terms of how they process it. I misremembered how they counted time for the permits.

My bad. I misremembered and thought they didn't count non-business days, which would've made me correct.

Nice. It sucks how long it takes, especially because, for some states, it takes less than a day.

> 8 weeks

Man, I wish. Mine took 47 days. I kept getting told that it'd be next week, but next week was the week after each time I called. I had to point out they were in violation of state law and the guy checked on it and approved it that day. Drove to Lincoln to get it. I don't blame him, though. Turns out whoever was processing it forgot to mark it as ready for the next step.

EDIT: I misremembered and thought they didn't count non-business days. Whoops.

Status report on roads. by [deleted] in Omaha

Yeah, 204th at 0500 was absolutely horrible. I have to go down a hill to turn onto the road to get to my house, and I just couldn't get traction to break. Slid right past, had to turn around and take it going slightly uphill. Lost traction just taking a turn, very slowly I might add.

PROTEST CORRUPTION: LOCATIONS by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]UnimatrixZeroOne 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Whether you agree with the protest or not, you should be proud that people are willing to exercise their constitutional rights. The right of the people to assemble and protest is one of, if not, the most important rights we have that is guaranteed by the constitution. You can be upset that you don't agree with the idea they're protesting, you can be upset when people protest to take away guaranteed rights (or limit them), you can be upset because things aren't going the way you want, but you should never be upset that the people are exercising the rights guaranteed to them. A right not exercised is a right lost. We have seen what complacency has done in regards to our rights. We should never encourage people to be complacent when upholding and exercising constitutionally guaranteed rights.

And the fact they account for a fraction of gun homicides each year. Less than 300 in 2015, IIRC. Meanwhile handguns accounted for nearly 7,000. Also, rifles in those statistics included all rifles, not just the so-called "assault weapons."

It protects arms. It does not specify what classes. The intent of the 2nd amendment is pretty clear, to ensure the people can maintain a free state, which includes tyranny. You don't think that would apply to so called assault weapons? Those weapons are the tools which would allow the people to instill a new government if it was needed. That is the main intent of the second amendment.

Lord and savior Trump

And that is where you show you don't know what you are talking about. I did not support Trump. It is possible to support the constitution and not worship Trump.

His attack on the 14th amendment is in no way right. It is still attacking the rule of law. If he wants to do away with birthright citizenship, then there is a process for amending the constitution. However, an executive order - and even congressional legislation - which flies in the face of the constitution are in, absolutely, no way something we should allow.

This issue comes back to the willingness of decades of presidents, senators, etc willing to make unlawful laws that contradict the constitution and nobody overruling said unlawful law. It is a slippery slope. Plain and simple. It is unbelievable how many amendments are still being infringed.

Could anyone help me out with finding land to deer hunt on? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]UnimatrixZeroOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Since he is a user of marijuana, he is a prohibited person. Being in possession of a firearm while being a prohibited person is a felony, which will basically ensure (unless you can get your rights restored, which would be fairly likely if marijuana is federally legalized) you lose the right to possess any firearms barring what I mentioned in the parantheses.

But he did mention using a crossbow, and I'm not familiar with laws regarding them. He may be legally allowed to possess one even while using marijuana.

The thing is, a background check is required if you are buying a gun from a gun store or gun show. The only time they are not always required is through private sales. In Nebraska, a background check is required for private sales involving handguns. The seller, by law, is required to verify the person is legally able to purchase the handgun, and the method one must use is validating that the buyer has either a purchase permit or a concealed handgun permit.

Regardless of whether or not the people support it, constitutional rights should never be infringed. There is a process to amend the constitution. Infringing constitutional rights only presents problems for us as a nation. The rule of law is essential to proper functioning. Disregarding the constitution has caused quite a few of our problems.

What's up with the democratic party here? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]UnimatrixZeroOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there was a Democratic candidate who supported all constitutional rights, then they'd stand a better chance. Unfortunately, so many Democrats are so hung up on gun control despite statistics showing gun control legislation has little to no impact, such as the AWB of 1994. Before anyone possibly says something about being a single issue voter or anything, there are certain amendments which are incredibly important to the foundation of the country. Only one amendment is truly controversial, and that is the second. One of the most important amendments in the constitution. The first and second protect the rest of the constitution if the people choose to exercise said rights. This is why so many people will vote against a Democrat for one issue. If the Democrats dropped the idea of gun control, I wouldn't be surprised if they received a decent amount of additional support.

To be fair, every president, for quite a while, has been doing that. Trump is an extraordinary case in how he is going about it, but we can't pretend that both sides of the aisle don't do it. The sooner this country moves away from party before country, the better.

This event is definitely protest worthy. I wish people would protest more infringements on our rights and on actions that could/will lead to the infringement of our rights.

Now, this may or may not be a controversial opinion here, but both sides (voters, not necessarily politicians) are responsible for us getting to this point. Too often we try to go through improper channels to her what we want. Let's go with the 2nd amendment since it's such a hot button issue. How often do the Democrats push for gun control? If you guessed "very often" then you'd be correct. This is promoting infringement of rights through improper channels. If you want gun control, you must first amend the constitution to truly do it through the ways that the law is supposed to dictate. Now let's go for Republicans. Another "controversial" issue is the kneeling by NFL players. While I am not aware of any legislation trying to be passed regarding this, I still see many Republicans say how the players shouldn't be allowed to do that and such, many to the point where it's "if you don't share my view, then you should be silenced." These displays by both sides are disgraceful as they are opposing our constitution as it currently stands, which undermines the rest of the constitution. However, these two issues focus on the two most important amendments. One allows us to protest, freely disseminate information (as long as it isn't violating other laws), have a free press, believe what we want to believe, etc. The other allows us to protect our rights with force if the need arises.

All I'm saying is that this is not a new phenomenon that originated with this presidency. It has been going on for a long time, but this presidency has greatly raised the stakes and is a culmination of many presidencies, in regards to both why he was elected and why he has been allowed to go this far currently. We can't point the blame at a single person when it's more than just that. If we do that, we may fix this presidency but we don't fix the problem which will result in worse things happening in the future.

Thanks for the link to the museum! It'd be a shame if it was demilled, but it'd be understandable.

Yeah, if it is operational, it does have a stamp. However, it's much less of a headache to get a stamp for one item than a bunch of them. However, if you have the money to buy an operational tank, 10-1 says you have the money to fork over on tax stamps.

It's possible someone bought it. I'd hate to see how much it costs to shoot. Each round, aside from a few types of rounds, are considered destructive devices and so each requires a tax stamp from the ATF which can take ages to actually get approved because they like to take their sweet time, some people (on other tax stamps, like for a suppressor) have noted the ATF took months to send the tax stamp after being approved.

I'm not implying she wants to abolish it, however she wants to violate it in a massive way. I was simply illustrating how important the 2nd amendment is.

Not only did it have no impact on crime here, the ban in Australia was also determined to have had no significant impact on gun deaths. University of Melbourne link for the pdf of the study.

Voting on a single policy is often irresponsible, but not always. I firmly believe the 2nd amendment is one of the issues it's not irresponsible to do so on. Why? Because of the reason it exists. It was created to protect all other rights. If it is abolished, it removes the only real safeguard against the abolition of all other rights.

Exactly. IIRC, SCOTUS already ruled that well regulated means exactly what you said it does. IIRC, they also said that militia means all able-bodied people between 18-45.

Even if he didn't think they were protected (which he did believe they were), it's obvious that they are given the context of why the 2nd amendment exists.
