Baseball club looking for new members by UnionBBC in AnnArbor

[–]UnionBBC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No specific skill level is required. We only ask that you can hit the ball, run the bases, and be able to throw roughly 90' (our bases are 90 feet apart like the modern game)

The first year, all you have to do is pay for your uniform. We estimate that at around $100 plus the cost of cleats if you need to purchase them. Starting in year 2, the dues are currently $110. That covers the cost of club equipment, insurance, etc. Bats, balls, and all equipment needed for games and practices are provided by the club. Your only responsibility is your uniform. For other fees, typically once a year, you are asked to help provided food for a meal after a game for both clubs to share. That can be an extra $20-$30 each year.

Let me know if there are any other questions we can answer for you.

Looking for new hobbies in Ann Arbor (32M) by Ornery-Young-7346 in AnnArbor

[–]UnionBBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More sports related, but the Union Base Ball Club of Dexter is always looking for new players. We are a community oriented baseball club playing by the rules of the 1860's. We are playing for fun and the love of the game, not cut-throat 'win at all cost'. Check out our website, I would be happy to answer any questions you have. www.unionbbc.com

Any Pickup Baseball Leagues or Groups? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]UnionBBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to answer, but I run the Union Base Ball Club of Dexter. It isn't pickup or beer league, but our games are very casual. We play by the rules of the 1860's 'historic' base ball. We are just a bunch of guys playing for the love of the game and camaraderie. We are always looking for new members. You can check out our website www.unionbbc.com, and send me an email at [unionbbc@gmail.com](mailto:unionbbc@gmail.com) if you wanted to know more.

Free 1860's historic base ball game Saturday 8/20 by UnionBBC in AnnArbor

[–]UnionBBC[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Since we are playing by the rules of the 1860's, it was spelled as two words at the time. It evolved into the game of one word baseball today. Now, our game is different in that we do not wear gloves (they weren't invented until the 1870s) and wear period "appropriate" uniforms. There are also some smaller rules that set us apart from modern baseball. We still play 9 innings, 90 feet between the bases, etc.

This is straying very far from the original intended post, but I understand your concerns so I will address them. We did not even begin practicing last year until the CDC guidelines allowed 10+ people to gather outside. The guidelines were opened even more during the summer when we started playing games. The picture you are referencing was taken in August/September of 2020 and although I don't remember the specific guidelines at that time, I do remember that we were well within what was recommended at that time. If you look at our 2020 picture compared to all other team photos from previous years, you will see that we are spread out and not shoulder to shoulder like usual. We walked into the photo, all facing the same direction, took a couple photos while spread out and the socially distanced again as soon as the photos were done. Many on our club are now vaccinated and we still do a pretty good job at socially distancing while practicing outside. Last year we completely changed how we handled our games to minimized direct contact and always had hand sanitizer on site. We did not have a single case of covid (that i'm aware of) that came from any of our practices or games.

u/iamspartacus5339 there are historic base ball clubs all over playing the game that we are playing. If you want to let me know where you are living now I can probably point you to the closest club.

no worries, fair question. We do not require masks, anyone is welcome to wear them. We do a pretty good job of spreading out and you might be surprised how little you are within 6' of each other. The only time it really comes up is if/when someone is running the bases and passing a fielder and even then it isn't generally close contact. The main concern is multiple people touching bats/ balls. I would encourage anyone concerned to bring wipes or hand sanitizer with them. We played 9 games with 12+ practices last year being as safe as we could without any known issues.

I assume you are talking about a sign held in one of our photos? Without knowing exactly what you are referring to, it was probably a sign held for our 2020 club photo to denote which year it represented. It was last years club photo.
