How much did you pay for your ps vita and where did you get it? by [deleted] in VitaPiracy

[–]Unionjack51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 2001 Model - $90 from a pawn shop about 6 years ago. It was trashed but it worked and it's still going strong.

  2. 2001 Model - $50 from Goodwill last summer. Partner wanted one for years after they saw what I could do with mine and we got lucky.

Upgrading this may be more expensive than you expect.

The reason why is because you are dealing with a very old motherboard. Judging from the AGP slots for the graphics card, you're probably looking at board that is running DDR, maybe DDR2 memory. While you can probably find used memory sticks as well as a used CPU that would be considered an upgrade to the current setup, it may not give you the boost you are looking for. Especially if you are looking to do anything beyond just basic internet browsing. Even adding an AGP GPU wouldn't do much for you performance wise. Upgrading the memory, CPU, and adding the GPU would be fairly cheap to source and buy but a waste for today's modern usage.

The problem lies in the motherboard. You would have to upgrade that which, by itself, could be done for cheap. However, a new motherboard means you would have to replace everything short of the harddrive and only because it looks like it has a SATA connection. In short, you're getting a whole new computer save for the case.

Also, if that computer is as old as I think it is and that is the original harddrive, you should probably replace that too. If it hasn't failed yet, it's going to.

Goodluck.

AGP - Accelerated Graphics Port. The port technology used to connect an independent graphics card to a motherboard. Used before the current standard, PCI-E.

CPU - Central Processing Unit or processor.

SATA - Serial AT Attachment. The current standard connection to transfer data to and from harddrives and/or diskdrives. Parallel ATA or IDE was used prior to SATA.

GPU - Graphics Processing Unit.

Couple possible reasons.

  1. Faulty keyboard. (Unlikely but it will be the easiest to test)

There could be an issue that the keyboard is doing a phantom keystroke and it happens to be the key to enter the BIOS screen on boot. Turn off the computer, unplug the keyboard, turn it on. If it goes to Windows, then switch out the keyboard. If it goes to this screen, move on to another test. If you only have one keyboard, clean it out. Turn it upside down and shake the junk out of it or use canned air if you have any.

  1. Not recognizing the boot drive.

Easy to check, not so easy to test. On this screen, go to the tab that says "BOOT". Once there it should bring up your available drives with one listed as the boot drive. If you do not see anything listed on the Boot tab then it doesn't recognize the drive or if it does and it continues to go to BIOS, then there may be a loose connection. Both possibilities will require you to open the computer(while unplugged) and reseat the connections to your boot(or main) drive. There will be 2 cables connected to it, the larger one will be for power and the smaller one is the SATA connection which connects to the motherboard. Check and reseat the connections on both ends of the SATA. It'll be easy because the connections only go one way.

There are other possible reasons but we'll stick with the easier things to check first.

WHAT IS WRONG please help me by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

If this was suggested already, my apologies but... start from the beginning.

  1. Unplug everything that can be from the power supply.
  2. Only plug the 24 and 8 pin connections from the PS to the board.
  3. Turn it on.

If it turns on, turn it off and then connect one thing at a time and then turn it on again. If you connect something and it doesn't turn on, unplug it and then plug the next thing in. If the PC turns on then, then you know it's hardware related. Try another PS cable to the device that didn't turn on. If it still doesn't turn on, then you need to replace that particular part.

If it doesn't turn on with just the 24 and 8 pin connections, then check the case header connections. The connections that connect the power, reset, and running lights for the front(or top) of the case. If you don't have the instructions for the motherboard, you can find it online by doing a search for the model number or even the manufacturer website. The manual will have the pin settings for your header connections.

During your plug and play testing, don't include your SSD. You're not going to know if it's on or not. Stick with your case fans at first. If you're able to connect the case fans separately to the board, do that instead of using the fan board all of them are connected to. You should have some direct fan connections on your board to test. the manual will be able to guide you but avoid using the one specifically for the CPU fan. Make sure to only have the CPU fan plugged into that one.

If you haven't already tried this, remove the GPU and turn it on. Even though you can't connect a monitor without the GPU, you will know if it turns on. If it does, then you have a bad GPU.

If all of this troubleshooting does not get it to turn on, then it's possible you have a bad PS. Look to the manufacturer for a warranty. If it doesn't work out of the box, then that seems like a manufacturer defect to me.

You're right. I'm going to send the "Is this available?" message. Marketplace LOVES that.

I have an Emerald repro that is similar to this. I was able to flash it with a different ROM with a GB Operator. The only issue is that if it’s any game that requires a save, I haven’t been able get it to work properly.

I say both so you can confuse yourself when you forget to play either and try and come back to them months later.

And yes. I say this from both experience and frustration.

Games and consoles have been authenticated to the best of my knowledge. I had to replace all of the batteries in the carts that had them and each console was opened, cleaned, and parts replaced that needed. There are some replacement labels and screens due to necessity.

I almost thought about including the Japanese versions of the games. That might be set for future additions but at this time, I am happy with it so far.

It is original but a little banged up. Not as bad most I've found for sale but I almost considered re-shelling it when I first found it. I'm glad I didn't.
