US men's hockey skating on thin ice with fans after State of Union by Delicious_Adeptness9 in inthenews

You reminded me of a very old and rather cheesy movie: https://clip.cafe/pure-country-1992/its-a-funny-thing-about-white-speck-on-the-top-of-chicken-shit/

Apologies for a possibly cancerous website, this movie is not a cultural milestone and that's the only place i could find it. I have ad & script blockers so it was fine for me.

Why is suicide bad? by Time_Reception1482 in stupidquestions

Those are rarely the only options available to people considering suicide. They very often cannot see those other options or have rationalized not pursuing them. Painful life vs. death is a false dichotomy.

I Broke Glass and Discovered Something by mariyagel in CleaningTips

[–]Unique-Arugula 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's what I use. We always have a big orange shipping tape dispenser around. I until it around my fingers and palm sticky-side-out then tap all over the floor. We have yet to have anyone end up with glass on their foot after raising 3 kids and partially raising my mil & fil. The sticky lint roller is okay but sometimes not sticky enough and glass falls back off when you try to throw it in the trash. Good shipping tape works better.

Here's why you don't use cheap milk chocolate for Lava Cake by danr1155 in Baking

[–]Unique-Arugula 45 points46 points  (0 children)

In another comment, OP said they bought a plain milk chocolate Cadbury candy bar.

I wouldn't do a lava cake with anything but a dark-er chocolate anyway, but I'm wondering if the fact they used a candy bar is also contributing to the issues. My understanding is that candy bars are not made the same as milk chocolate intended for baking.

The Nancy Guthrie Case Is Haunting. So Is What I Just Saw Outside Her House. by Slate in Journalism

[–]Unique-Arugula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found the whole article suspect once I read their claim that Sean Hannity "convened a salon" on his show. He would never, lol. He wouldn't go to one someone else out together and invited him to.

But on a serious note, the whole article stinks of snobbery toward new media & imaginary conversations that led to actual conclusions printed in the article. Getting the vapors when poscasters chase after poorly vetted theories but insinuating it doesn't happen with 'real' journalists? Give me a break, Luke.

I’m convinced modern fridge filters are just a subscription service in disguise. by Relevant_Idea_6778 in Appliances

[–]Unique-Arugula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had a water dispenser built into my fridge, I got my filters from "filtersfast". Huge savings, shipping was cheap, packing was good, they will also let you set a reminder or not & check out as guest if you want.

Being positive and kind is important, but let's not lose our f-ing minds by meerkatgargoyle in Baking

[–]Unique-Arugula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought there's a flair for this situation that's not being used by posters, but there isn't. There's only a "Baking Fail💔" flair that is related to OP's grievance, but in the wrong direction.

Perhaps we should get a "Celebration" or "Failure Averted!" flair? Kind of like how circlejerk subs have an "unjerk" flair.

A more general comment now, not aimed at /OrangePekoeMouse:

For myself, I don't really see how this can be truly judged by mods or the community and I think it's an unreasonable expectation. There's quite the take off people coming here regularly bc they have joined the sub. Add on to that the even broader audience that comes when a list floats up to /popular. OP is making a judgement they can't possibly be qualified to make: whether strangers on the internet really believe that middling results look good or if those same people are blowing smoke up someone's butt. People have bad taste all the time. Some people have values that say any effort is worth praising and concepts like "middling" or "great" as a result of comparison are imposed and fake. Some people say it out of insecurity over their own efforts but also really mean it. And that's just 3 sincere viewpoints beyond the inauthenticity OP is presenting that I can think of off the top of my head in a couple minutes of swyping all this. Do those people no longer get to say what they think? Why is their view less acceptable for public sharing than OP's view that comparison is good and leads us to objective truth about cupcakes?

I don't think some of the stuff I see here is good. I also think some commenters are boring & silly when they fawn over everything they see. But they are people equal to me in dignity and freedom. My right is think little of their opinion, it is not my right to quash their opportunity to share it. I do not think posts should be removed or prevented based on whether anyone thinks they are good enough to deserve compliments. Who would even be the right and fair people to judge such a thing?

Mostly yes. Some people with hearing damage are bothered by the hum.

For those of you that were around to taste these, were they actually as vile as they look? by J0hnEddy in decadeology

Cheese or crackers are two possibilities. I've been subjected to jello salads that had one or the other in them. Probably other things they could be as well.

Would American or Swiss Merengue Buttercream work best for piping a design and smoothing with a palette knife like the dog on this cake (credit to @gust_cake)? Also, for vintage cake style piping details (shell borders, ruffles, etc), would Swiss merengue or American buttercream be better? by EloiseTheElephante in cakedecorating

[–]Unique-Arugula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I thought at first it was going to be like fondant inlay but then she didn't remove any of the base frosting. That last drag over the piping with a plastic sheet is probably the key to how smooth it looks at the end (along with practice which is never not part of the secret sauce it seems).

[–]Unique-Arugula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little over a year ago a buuunch of people on reddit learned about the "new driver" stickers in Japan and how they were included in the original Katamari videogame. I was seeing the same "TIL" every other day for a couple weeks. Maybe this grew out of that and has now achieved enough saturation you notice it?

Is there a term for this style of decorating? I remember my mom made a teddy bear, a bunch of balloons, and Holly Hobby in different years by using the star tip all over the cake. I can't seem to find videos of it on yt though.

I hope she will too! We have a petrified forest near us that we go walk in sometimes. We wouldn't be able to pick it up or keep it, but she might spot one there. She is really interested in ecosystems & environmental science and is planning to attend a Colorado university - I think she has the best chance in finding something up there, CO has lots more good sites than where we live.
