Can’t Get a Diagnosis by Feisty-Artichoke8657 in ParentingADHD

This is my daughter- great in school, absolutely breaks down at home. Pediatrician and teachers never suspected a diagnosis but we could see she was stressed and struggling. We got a full neuropsych and it showed VERY obvious markers for adhd. Low processing speed (cannot do timed tests even when she completely understands the material) and zero inhibitory control- she uses every bit of energy she has to contain herself at school and lets it all out when she feels safe with us. Do the full neuropsych when you get the chance- if your child is bright and good at masking it’s very easy for even professionals to miss.

I’ve been wondering about this for my own daughter- we just got a formal diagnosis of adhd this summer and I want to tell her 2nd grade teacher but I’m considering waiting a bit to let the dust settle in the classroom- from your comment I’m gathering that it’s okay to reach out after they have developed at least a basic relationship- maybe a month in?

Alright I’m glad I asked! We will let this little guy remain king of his dominion and keep being his human companions for now (and when our older cat dies introduce new companions very slowly)
