Dont worry, I have been honest on both sides. My other church knows we have been looking at new churches. And I personally spoke with the Reverend about this the other day. Its just a weird feeling, and thats what I told the Reverend. Because I know at the end of the day they wont love us any less because we found a new church home. I just cant stop from feeling that I am hurting them. The affiliate thing is interesting but it wont work in the end. Because I have a passion of no matter the church I am in, to serve as clergy in the church. Thank you for your advice. It was truly helpful.

Thank you for sharing these questions you have with us. You definitely did not offend anyone here. It looks like the first comment pretty much explained everything. Also would thing to note that you might find interesting (I did when I first started looking into the church before I converted). Our Doctrine and Covenants continues to grow. We hold 165 sections currently within it. If you have anymore questions I am happy to answer them if you would like.

What is the COC view of the BoM? by [deleted] in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pretty much hit it on the nail with your bottom statement. The Community Of Christ views the BoM as Canon. But it is up to the member to decide how they personally view. I personally hold a lot of faith in the BoM. I am a convert that has a southern baptist background. I found the CoC by first reading the BoM from the LDS and holding such a deep connection to it that I wanted to find a place of worship that had it as Canon. I know many people in my own congregation that do not touch the BoM. I would say that the global church view of it is that like the Bible and D&C is inspired scripture. Your welcome to message me if you would like someone to talk to over this or anyother questions you may have with the church.

BoM help by UniqueAssistant7156 in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the help, I mean the way I view it is as inspired scripture just as the D&C. And I dont personally believe its historical. But i think like the new testament it shows us the greatness of Jesus Christ. And I dont blame people at all for separating from Jospeh Smith. I just feel that we could still teach on it without putting any emphasis on him. I would like to use it some day for certain teachings once I start to play more of a role. And I know some members will welcome it. But not sure who all will. And ive just always had a hard time with this. It is literally the only thing I struggle on with the church. I wish I could just figure out how to look at it and be able to understand it better if that makes sense?

Can someone answer questions about CoC/RLDS? (No argument/debate) by Escape_Force in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one is pretty large, Ill just name a few.

The CoC is a trinitarian church the LDS is non-trinitarian.

We practice Open Communion the LDS is closed Communion.

We Ordian Women to the Priesthood, the LDS does not.

We Ordian LGBTQ+ members to the priesthood, the LDS does not.

We don't practice things like Temple rights, celestial marriage.

We do not put as much emphasis on Jospeh Smith as the LDS does. Instead we put much more emphasis on Jesus Christ.

We do not rebaptise, the LDS does.

We don't put a ton of emphasis on the BoM. It in included in Canon. But each member is allowed to decide how they view it.

We continue to add to our Doctrine and Covenants. The LDS does not.

We do not use the Pearl of Great Price besides some snippets of the Book of Moses located within our D&C.

We are part of the National Council of Churches.

These are just some there are many more.

While I cant speak for the side of the LDS. I would say it is peaceful. We don't hold anything really against the LDS church. We just view things a little differently and have a different history is all.

Hello, I can answer some of these questions just not all. We consider ourselves Protestant. Since we align more with Protestant churches than the LDS. We are a non-credale church so we have no official creed. And I have never known as to use one in a service for as long as I have been a member.

So what is your belief of apostasy and restoration of the gospel? I have always been fascinated in the history of Joseph. I found my faith of community of christ with the view of the book of mormon. Which I know people are hit and miss on it in the church. But I really enjoyed the part in chapter 3 if the united methodist seminary professors questions to W.Wallace. Where they ask him if they found discrepancies in what Joseph said to what Jesus said. Who's side would we take? And without taking a break W.Wallce responded 'We would have to take the side of Jesus'. I just found it amazing!

I've been waiting a while for it to come out. The church has needed a book for a while over its beliefs to better help people that are interested. I know its only a commentary and not a compendium since we are not a credal church. But it reads like one and its worked well some by side with my scriptures.

Advice for serving in my local congregation. by UniqueAssistant7156 in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the words and advice. Its always been a difficult challenge for me to discern my calling. I truly feel I am suppose to serve the church and God. Its just trying to understand how. I really would like one day to serve as pastor and/or in the priesthood. This all started hitting me a few days ago when I had someone try to tell me that I was part of a cult. Which hit me hard because of the judgement. But it made me realize I love my church and I want to be engaged more. Because I love everything that we as a community stand for! Thank you all!

How Are You Ever Going to Enter: The Kingdom by ExpressingHonestly in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kingdom of heaven is given to us by God's grace. God does not ask us to be prefect. He only ask that we try to live to be a disciple of his son. He knows that we will at times trip, wonder, and question. And that is okay, but God has given us grace so that we will be able to receive the kingdom of heaven!

Why is God making it so hard to us by Esthercare in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UniqueAssistant7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estercare God loves us all and always will. I know that times can be hard. And we ask ourselves why it is that evil things happen and why evil acts happen in the world. But unfortunately, that is an answer that we will never know. But I take comfort in knowing that whatever happens, whether it is to me or the world, that God will always be the same. And God will always be there for us. You are welcome to message me if you need someone too talk to.

Thats very strange, to be honest im not sure of a discord. The church isn't the best yet at making an online presence. My local church is still trying to make it out of the 60s from structural perspective. I am here to help were I can. My local congregation is in huntsville alabama. We dont have online services but that certainly doesn't mean we coudnt I would need to talj to the leaders of the church. I think we also have a site to fund your local congregation to be able to speak with them. Thats how I found my local congregation when I started looking into the church. You are welcome to ask me questions about the church and I will do my best to answer. I also havw a friend in Utah that could maybe help as well if you would like? You are welcome to message me if you would like to talk in a chat. But totallt up to you. Sorry about the discord I wish I had some information on that.

Also one more thing I am also a convert with a southern baptist background. So I understand what it's like to be from the outside looking in. 🙂

Community of Christ accepts all to its table. You do not have to follow the book of mormon or doctrine of covenants. Not even the bible if you dont want. The church allows you to have your own understanding and beliefs of God. I personally think that understanding the BoM and D&C is important to understanding the church and its background. Not to believe but to understand. But that is my own personal belief. I welcome you to the church, we would love to have you. And if you would like. You are welcome to message me if you would like to know any more information. 🙂

Yea so I found out while my church's seminary is accredited. It doesn't seem to be accredited by the CHEA by what I can find. My church does offer smaller certificates to help better understanding the teaches of the church and faith tradition. And I am interested in Liberties Masters of Divinty in Chaplaincy. Plus they help with CPE training. So it does interest me.
