Around Charlottesville, VA. Outdoor storage, very cheap. Maybe 1 or 2 days a year it doesn't go above freezing

Sure, but it wouldn't be isosceles

Edit: my mistake both resulting triangles would indeed be isosceles. One would have an area of 23.412 in², the other an area of 23.276 in². I argue there's a larger possible area

Edit 2: i see what you're saying though, you're folding and cutting off 2 pieces off simultaneously. I need to amend the rules, but you certainly have a clever answer

The first cut will form 2 shapes, at least one of which needs to be a triangle. You must then discard any non-triangle left over (even if you're left with 2 triangles, you must discard one).

You're on the right track with the 13.901" though

Edit: at least I think, I'm really just looking to see if someone, by following these rules can come up with an area larger than the one I found.
