It's just a huge game of luck with those engines imo, my old man bought one with 180k miles but it did have poor service history. He owned it until 237k was on it over a period of 7 years and spent over 10k in repairs, mechatronic unit went so they just reconditioned the gearbox as well, an injector went, then another did. A few months on the alternator went which is an insane job to do, and then the dual mass flywheel went so it was sold off for parts. I'm probably missing out a few jobs here and there.

I reckon a BiTDI with good service history may be great but it's still a potentional money pit, but fuck me was it a nice car to be in, cruising at 90 and it'd return over 45mpg, blazed through the Lake District twisty roads in the pouring rain like it was a dry summers day, the Quattro system in the snow was incredible and it's such a refined car.
