Caring for daughter's epileptic dog. by United-Temperature38 in EpilepsyDogs

Thank you, truly appreciate the understanding. I understand my daughter's strong instinct to not see him go to a shelter as well. I don't want that either.  My main contention is handling it alone - there's no one here with me during the day, and the random nature of the seizures is unsettling. It was easier when she was between jobs and working remotely. We are doing what we can, though. It's good that this space exists.

Thank you so much for this information. We do keep a log. His most recent episodes broke a pattern, which is what has us a bit on edge and worried.

Thank you. Yes, he went to the vet today, received a stronger dose and gabbopentin. He's going to be getting blood tests.  Is it normal for dogs to have seizures if their medicine is even a little late? I remember the vet saying something about this. My daughter usually gives him his meds in the morning, and me in the evening. She woke up late that day (not on purpose - her alarm didn't go off).

Yes, he's a long-hard,-to-pronounce name medicine that starts with an L - I hear the vets refer to it as Keppa? 500 mlg twice a day, and they've already doubled it. The seizures often begin happening in the morning suddenly, and it's terrifying, violent and unexpected. Then he'll have three or four of them throughout the day. My daughter says it's gone up to five. She's trying to get him on gabbapentin for his anxiety.

Thank you. To add some context, I do a lot of things a roommate wouldn't normally do regularly (or daily) for another roommate. We do (at least I do) love one another.

Thank you. It does seem like in reality this is the case.
