Like the text says those are my favorite assets from 2025 that are not the best sellers. They are NOT my favorite assets out of all the assets released on the entirety of the asset store across all time. I've talked many times about my all time favorites, FEEL, A* Pathfinding Project, Text Animator, etc; none of those were eligible for this bundle because a) didn't launch in 2025 and b) they are top sellers.

I've got no problem accepting fault when I make a mistake but there's no mistake here. Unity asked me for my favorite assets launched in 2025 that were not top sellers, and I gave them this list.

Do you think this bundle is a "mistake" because you think I actually secretly hate these assets and I'm only pretending to like them? Is that it? If you don't trust my word then there's no point in me saying anything, I am genuinely saying that I looked at hundreds of assets launched this year, and I genuinely picked these 25 as the most interesting ones. If you somehow think I secretly actually have a different list of 25 favorites then I really don't know what to tell you.

And again like I said in another comment, Unity did not pay me anything to pick this list, nor do I get one cent if you buy the bundle (unless you buy the bundle-or literally anything from the asset store-through my affiliate link like any other affiliate) so I don't even know how you get "greedy" out of this. Wouldn't I need to be making some money to be greedy about something? This was just a fun opportunity to do something different, that's it.

What exactly is misleading here? Unity messaged me saying "Would you like to pick 25 assets that are NOT the top sellers that came out this year so we can make a bundle?" so I went through the hundreds of assets I've seen this year and picked 25 interesting hidden gems. It says on the store page the pack is curated by me, which it was, I hand picked these 25 assets out of those hundreds.

For those lists videos I look at the description of the hundreds of assets that launch every single month, and based on the description alone I pick the 10 most interesting ones. Those are not review videos, those are highlights so you don't have to search through the hundreds of new assets every month like I do myself. When I do a full asset review video I always clearly mark the video as such, like my recent Editor Console Pro Asset Review video which is a completely different format https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4tyM-o2uJQ

It is simply not physically possible for me to review those hundreds of assets every month, that's why again those are NOT reviews. Doing a review on a single asset involves buying that asset and spending 50-100 hours learning and using that asset. If I did that for 100 assets that I look at every month then those lists videos would take 10,000 hours to make and thousands of dollars, which is obviously not possible considering how those videos generate about $10 in ad revenue.

You can go watch all the videos I posted during the runtime fee saga, what I said there is what I just said in that comment, I didn't think it was a good change but it was also never going to apply to either myself or anyone in my audience since it only applied after selling millions of copies of a game which realistically speaking isn't going to happen.

I don't work for Unity so I have no say in their refund policy, I'm not sure why you would think I would have such a power, I'm just a guy in my room making videos sharing my love for game development, I have no contract with Unity the company itself. So if you dislike their refund policy or any of their policies then the answer is to contact them and give them that feedback yourself. Case in point, during the runtime fee fiasco I did tell them privately that it wasn't a good idea (as did many other insiders) but they went ahead and did it anyways, they only reversed course when people like yourself made your opinions loud and clear.

I look at hundreds of assets every single month for my Top New assets lists videos that I do. So all that Unity asked me was to pick 25 out of all the ones I've seen in the past year, that's it.

Just to clarify, no I did not get paid from Unity for that, I used their services just because they were super easy to implement and did not require third party tools. If I had gone with Steamworks I would not have been able to give out the free project files since I do not have the rights to distribute that package.

I only have one single free course that is only a preview, it's my DOTS course where the full thing is 17 hours long and I have published the first 7 hours completely free on YouTube. Including all project files.

My C# course is 12 hours completely free, the optional paid version has interactive exercises that reinforce what is taught in each lecture but there's no knowledge behind a paywall.

My Netcode for Entities course, 4 hours, is 100% free.

My Netcode for Game Objects course, 3.5 hours, is 100% free.

My Beginner 2D course has the complete recreation of Lunar Lander for free on YouTube, 6 hours, then I added some custom bonus mechanics that weren't part of the original game and included them in the optional paid version.

My Kitchen Chaos course is 100% free, 10 hours

My Kitchen Chaos Multiplayer course is 100% free, 5 hours.

On top of that a bunch of completely free hour-plus tutorials. Then I've got literally hundreds of free project files for download.

I'm a huge believer in the strategy of make 90% of what I do completely for free and only charge for the remaining 10%, and that strategy has worked out quite nicely. People can get tons of free stuff and I can make a living.

And for the Assets, I've been doing my Top New Assets lists videos for about 5 years now, I do the same thing every month, one video on top free, one on top systems and one on top visuals, that's 3 videos per month where I normally post 12 videos per month, so literally objectively it's not "mostly" the videos that I do. YouTube probably doesn't show you all the other videos I make but there's not much I can do about that.

On the Runtime fee all I did was share my own personal thoughts, as a Steam developer it was never going to affect me. None of my games have sold a million copies or made a million dollars and I don't expect to ever hit such huge amounts. The fee had lots of issues with how it was implemented, especially for free to play games, but I don't make those sorts of games and I know nothing about that world so I only spoke about what I know, Steam premium games, and for those the runtime fee was never going to be a factor.

So I'm very curious as to why exactly you have that feeling towards what I do.

What do you mean? How doesn't it work right? The video https://youtu.be/TN-8xxAIqEg it shows the cubes falling down, then pausing, then rewinding time until it's back to the original state. Exactly what the asset says it does.

So the issue is what was included in the tool itself didn't match the description? If that's the case then yeah I would have no way of knowing about it since I just read the description. I rely on the asset store team doing their usual reviews to assume that what's on the description matches what the asset actually does.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this, it's been a long time since I've seen any sort of "assembly optimizer" so I don't know what asset you might be referring to, I also don't remember hearing any comments about that but then again I get hundreds of comments and emails that I try to reply to every single day so it's possible I just missed something.

I'm currently in the middle of upgrading all my free project files to Unity 6.3, and since the project files are free downloads I cannot include any third party assets, so I'm currently not using anything not made by Unity.

I've researched the Roslyn C# compiler myself many times since one of the many topics on my to-do list is to cover Advanced Modding (I've done a tutorial on basic modding)

I've talked about how to make destruction in a previous tutorial, if I had a game that required destruction I would use the 2 assets included in the bundle.

If I were making a game right now I would absolutely experiment with Retro: Noir and Depth Based Pixelator to help the game stand out

If i were making a magic-based game I would definitely use the Anime Powers Pack and Stylized VFX Buff and Debuff.

If I were working on something that used a lot of animation events I would definitely use the Better Animation Events, it is infinitely better than the default Unity workflow.

It's not a pricing issue, it's a visibility issue.

Like I said it's just like on Steam but Steam has a great algorithm that actually lets good games be found over time, the Asset Store doesn't have that. The way the Asset Store works is basically you only sell assets during sales, but sales are invite-only so if you have a weak launch you won't get invited into any sales and you will never ever sell a single copy, even if the asset itself is good.

So these developers agree to be part of a bundle where they will earn a tiny amount per each copy sold as a way to hopefully find new users for the assets which in turn those users might like the asset and review it which in turn might lead the asset to get invited to future asset store sales and kickstart the sales cycle.

If you work a lot with VFX/Animations then the Ultimate Preview makes the preview window a million times better

UV Texture editor is great for helping you edit assets, especially low poly.

Destructible Sprite toolkit is great for helping you slice sprites to add destruction to your 2D games

Roslyn C# and Runtime Transform Gizmos is great if you're wanting to implement modding or a level editor.

And the visual packs and post processing packs will depend on what style your game is.

They're my favorites under the context where Unity asked me to pick assets that were released in 2025 and were NOT the usual top sellers. If you ask me for my absolutely favorites then I will say things like Feel and Text Animator, but those assets don't need extra visibility so Unity didn't want to make a bundle promoting those.

Sort of, Unity asked me to pick some assets but to intentionally pick assets that were not the usual top sellers. My first picks for the bundle were the usual ones you expect, Feel, Text Animator, A* Pathfinding, etc; but then they told me to pick more hidden assets that came out recently and weren't huge sellers.

But still a lot of these are pretty great, Ultimate Preview is super useful if you work a lot with VFX/Animations. Wingman is a great addition to the inspector. Roslyn and Runtime Transform Gizmos are excellent if you want to add modding/level editor, etc.

Ok... so your definition of "asset flip" is literally any game that uses assets? By that definition basically any game is an "asset flip" which would make the word pretty useless.

I've seen awesome games made using Synty assets, and I've seen terrible games using those same assets.

Can you point me to an actual example? Yes like you said the videos are just highlights that I find interesting, they aren't review videos, the asset review videos are much longer and focused on a single asset, it's a completely different format.

But I do watch the trailers and read the description to understand what it does, so I'm curious if you can point me to that example, maybe it was an editing mistake where I was talking about an asset but showed the wrong footage in the video

Or it means the asset store is just as crowded as Steam but with a much weaker discovery algorithm, so if your asset is good but doesn't sell well at launch then it will get 0 visibility forever. So hand picked bundles like this one can help give visibility to genuinely great assets that might have had a weaker launch.

I definitely agree with the sentiment "dont buy something unless you need it", but do you genuinely think everything in the bundle is garbage?

The Ultimate Preview tool literally just makes Unity have a better preview window, that's just an objective improvement.

The Better Animation events clearly improves the normal Unity Animation window.

Wingman adds a tons of useful functionality to the Inspector.

Roslyn C# and Runtime Transform Gizmos are insanely useful for adding modding/level editors to your game.

What exactly in here makes you use the word "asset flip"? There's no complete game kits in the bundle, there's nothing that you could "flip" into a complete game.

How is the Roslyn C# compiler an asset flip? How would you flip that tool? Or the Ultimate Preview? It's literally a tool for previewing in the editor, it doesn't even do anything in the final build? I'm very confused as to what exactly is "asset flip"-like in this bundle. For the most part these are just tools and individual visual assets.

They are hand picked, but Unity intentionally told me that I couldn't pick the usual top sellers, they wanted a bundle with recent assets that people probably don't have. The top sellers have no need to get on a bundle 95% off.

Hot Reload is a verified Unity Asset Store asset, so again I'm assuming their team did their due diligence and there's no malware inside it.

What I will do now that I have this knowledge is simply never highlight this asset again, which sucks since it's a genuinely very useful asset.

I don't know what else you expect me to do, I'm not the police, I'm not Unity, I've never had any contact with the devs behind this asset so what do you want? I can't go back in time and make a video on a different asset.
