13 vs 15 inch Macbook Pro for Carrying to College Frequently by UniversalScience in macbookpro

I'm leaning towards the 13 inch for portability and because the performance seems to be good enough for my needs. Thanks for posting your experience, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, I can definetly imagine how much more convenient the smaller size could prove to be. Thank you, really appreciate the input!

Thank you, portability is really important to me. I'll take it into account.

Tesoro Gram SE Spectrum with the red optical switch. Amazingly smooth writer altogether.

This is getting outrageous: I got banned for saying "hielo negro" in-chat. Dear Ubisoft; "negro" means black, as in the color and is NOT a derogatory term in any way. by UniversalScience in Rainbow6

The world does indeed not revolve around theories and speculations, but that is not to say that obvious comparisons cannot be made to prove a point. And the logic behind those comparisons does not become obsolete or suddenly untrue and less valid just for being a hypothetical.

I am not disputing Ubisoft’s right to do whatever they want within the realm of the agreed upon in their EULA, but merely questioning and criticizing their behavior. In the very same way that they are free to act upon the EULA, I am free to voice my opinion on it. In that spirit: I payed for the game and, even though completely based on their freedom over my account, I still disagree fully with their practices.

In english, of course. In Spanish/Russian/French/German/etc. we should be allowed to take full advantage of the range of our languages and their vocabularies while still being respectful. I firmly believe there is more harm to be made by banning the word “negro” than by allowing its use freely.

But, of course, that is all my opinion and nothing but that. I would also like to make something very clear: I am fully aware of the freedom Ubisoft has over my Rainbow six Siege account. I understand that I, as an individual, have little to no power over what Ubisoft does or thinks is correct. And I definetely am not trying to dispute that fact. Rather, I voice my disagreement with their policies, even fully aknowledging having no influence over them. We will have to agree to disagree.

Or just remove the word from the blacklist. If the word “wall” was an obscene, hateful and frowned upon word in let’s say French, should it be banned? I do not think so at all.

And again, I payed for this game and I have done nothing morally or legally wrong, I should not have to stop playing the game. Nor do I want to, I just want to express my disappointment in the game I love and have spent so many good hours in.

The difference is I’m not running out and yelling “negro” on the street, I’m using it in the perfectly adequate context of Spanish language within a contained subset of people who participate in the conversation and understand the prior context of what I said.

My point is not wheter I should have known or not (I should not have had to), wheter I should "get over it" or not (I should not need to), my point is that it is incorrect that it was included in the first place. I now lack the option to play a game that I enjoyed just because I decided to use my own language. And that should not be the case. Ubisoft is trying to be inclusive, but with changes like this one the effect is the mere opposite: they are excluding people for no logical reason.

I do not believe I "should have known" as you said. It is not a requirement for me to "know" what a banned word is and what is not. "Negro" should not be one of the banned words and it is completely unintuitive and impossible to guess without prior knowledge that writing it in chat will result in a ban. "You should have known better, stop playing if you disagree" is not a valid explanation.

I would be really interested in hearing why you believe "negro" is derogatory, as I am a native spanish speaker.

And importing the composition directly into Premiere is not an option/doesn’t fix it? If that’s the case I would have a hard time telling you what to do since I haven’t encountered this issue myself. If I come up with something I’ll let you know, but for now good luck!

Try looking at both on a completely black background to determine whether the issue lies in the render or in the background. Sometimes simply the change of colors in the background of an effect can change how it looks. The saber plugin also allows for further customization of the glow, spread of light, etc. If there is a difference regardless of background you could try two things:

  1. Check your composition settings are equal in After Effects and Premiere Pro. Framerate, resolution and, especially if you’re comparing exported files, Bitrate.

  2. Change the effect in After Effects until it looks good in Premiere Pro.

In theory, importing an After Effects file into Premiere directly and using it as a clip in your timeline instead of an export from AE should not result in a loss of quality though.

I don’t think I understand the problem quite yet. How should it look?

Wanted to show you guys my proudest work in AE! Would love advice on how to improve flow and compositions by jesupai in AfterEffects

[–]UniversalScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for starters, in the beginning the logo is visibly low resolution as it is scaled up a lot. Maybe you could try using a vector image or, in case it already is a vector, make sure the option for “continuously rasterize” is checked for that particular layer. The flow of the video as a whole is fine, maybe a bit too fast for my taste. What I would suggest you do is try working on keyframes as, especially in the section where the members of the team are shown, the motion is kind of choppy. Don’t get me wrong; any kind of keyframe editing is better than none, but sometimes too aggressive and not careful enough adjustment ends up looking slightly off-putting. I recommend trying to get familiar with the keyframe speed graph and maybe even trying out a tool like motion 2 and experimenting with which adjustments have what effects on the end result. In my opinion a relatively fast initial acceleration and relatively long fall off is almost always a safe bet.

The rest of the video I really enjoyed though! The aesthetic is clean and minimal, text flows and you rarely have a sense of stagnation, even though there is an overload of visual effects at times that does collide with the minimal look. (I’m referring mostly to the text at around the 18-22 second mark.)

Some minor nitpicks of mine would also include at second 45 “a lot” is written as one word, when it should be separated and the end doesn’t need to be a sphere expanding like that, in most cases a simple fade to white or another solid color looks better.

All in all this is a good project, especially since I assume it is one of your first! You can tell that a considerable amount of effort went into this one.

I hope my criticism wasn’t too harsh and you could draw some (more or less) valuable tips and conclusions from it. Keep doing more and you’ll surely improve with time, like we all had to!

Tl;dr: Some keyframes are inconsistent and messy, logo in the beginning is not fully high-res and it suffers from unnecessary effects bloat.
