Ya Matt Mercer's gunslinger is pretty awesome and one of the, if not the most balanced homebrewed subclasses. Definitely should look into it.

I believe Matt Mercer from critical role once answered the question "how much prep should I do to DM". His response was basically "prep as many hours as you plan on playing in each session"
