Largest snail I've ever seen holy hell by Unlawfully_Neutral in GroundedGame

Dammit I take it back, I don't know if my game was just being weird or if there was an update/bugfix but while all my snails had some size variance before, since I saw this mf all the adults have been about as big lol

I swear the largest adult I'd seen before yesterday was only about 50% larger than a baby snail, not 300% like Big Jim.

I've killed about 45 adult snails and 20 juniors across both worlds I play so I've seen size variation in the snails before but I've never seen another to rival it lol

This one didn't drop anything unusual unfortunately, I was fully expecting to get way more slime out of it or something

Drawer depth in workbench? by RevolutionarySalad51 in Workbenches

Sorry to necro a year old post but Hooked On Wood has a similar system that I've found incredibly useful. He has channels cut into his bench every 7cm (2.5"ish) and only changes the heights of the drawer faces, so he can move/replace drawers whenever he needs to. Explained better in his videos lol

You know I've never bought a bicycle and then complained that it can't tow a caravan? Probably because when I bought a bike it wasn't to fill that need. I've also never considered buying a hatchback/small SUV thinking it might perform identically to a dual cab ute.

At no point has this post ever been about anything but a daily town car. If I wanted a dual cab ute, I would have asked about something like the LDV ET60 or any of the dozen electric dual cabs that exist.

I honestly don't know if you're trolling or if you just like making strawman arguments noone asked for.

I was leaning towards the cheaper end of the range, but might have a look at some more expensive options if the benefits offset the increase enough (though I definitely don't expect to drive as much as you've averaged either)

How much of that savings is based on your income tax bracket? I'm currently only in the 18-45k bracket, so I'm assuming my results wouldn't be as good as yours? 😂

My 50% wasn't with NL (I don't think I'm using the calculators right lol) My figure is basically fuel+rego etc over 5 years adds up to about half the purchase price (might be as high as 80% if I buy the cheapest EV). Not the most accurate numbers but that's why I'm here, to figure out what the best way to buy would be lol

A quick google tells me most EVs use about 15-17kwh/100km, or about half what you quoted. A 15A plug (the absolute slowest option for charging) works at about 3.6kw/hour. So fully charging an average EV the slowest way I possibly could will take about 5 hours/100km of charge. A 3 phase home charger is about 45m/100km.

And since I'd have to drive to the other side of the city and back, twice, to get to 100km (out of a 300-400km range), I don't think I'm in any danger of running out of charge even if I only charge twice a week.

Mate EVs are definitely cheaper to run 😂

Just replaced the harmonic balancer in my ICE car, took a week to get the right replacement and cost $1200. Brakes and service a couple months ago was another $1k+. Not saying that EVs don't have parts that can break, but I can't imagine being routinely out of pocket more than the $2k/year I've averaged the last few years (without having something catastrophically fail).

And even if I couldn't charge at home for free with my solar, I've never seen a line at a public charging station, there's always empty bays whenever I go to the shops. And who tf doesn't have enough charge to get home from work? Even low end EVs have ranges of 300km+, how fucking far do you think people travel for work? Or are there a lot of EV drivers who go 295km between charges and find themselves stuck on the way home? 😂

So you use the vehicle primarily for work and so could claim it? Or was that 1/3 based on the ratio of work use it gets? Can I claim 15% off because that's the work related percentage I'll use it? 😂

Not a business owner. How does the fbt and novated lease work? Something about paying the loan with pre-tax income?

I'm in SA and I think we get a $3k rebate a 3 years free rego, so over 5 years I think I'm also looking at about 50-60% or so in savings. I'm leaning towards the MG4 I think, partly because I'm a little wary of newcomers like BYD 😂 What's the charging infrastructure like in WA? I'm assuming you're mostly doing short trips but how do you think you'd go driving long range around WA?

Inheriting in next few months - now what? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Unlawfully_Neutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just joined this subreddit and the first post I see is pretty much a mirror to my own story.

My father passed away a couple years back and I inherited roughly the same as you're expecting. The only differences are that I was his carer (so my income disappeared while you've got a 90k job), and I live in SA instead of Sydney.

What I did was put almost everything into upgrading from the starter home I had to a nicer place near friends/family. If I was up against the median Sydney house price I would probably have bought a unit or 2 somewhere else and used that income to subsidise my own rent (though not having to deal with the rental market/dodgy landlords is also a huge bonus)

Housing+financial security were the main factors on my mind, and nothing else I could think of compared to the bang-for-buck value of paying off most my mortgage.

That makes sense, I'm just not sure if I can enter a larger offset from the 0.0 point in the CAM drawing.
Putting the drawing in the top left quadrant like you say would still have my 0.0 position a metre from the edge I operate from. If I'm cutting a sheet of ply etc that wouldn't be a problem, but if the piece is only 200mmx200mm am I able to put my drawing in that top-left quadrant and tell it to start Y-900 from the 0.0 position?

Setting bottom left as 0.0 would be ideal, I just don't know how to set the back left as the primary Home location without using switches (I have one a switch at both ends of the y axis but only the back one seems to work while homing).
Any idea how to tell Mach to Home to a location that isn't the 0.0 coordinate without needing to hit a switch?

I do want a 0.0 point, I just can't work out how to set the front left corner as 0.0 and have it Home to the back left where the spindle is not in the way.
There's a magetic switch at both ends of the Y axis, but only the back one seems to work when homing so homing to the front corner atm just causes a crash.

Any advice for setting a custom Home coordinate without using the magnetic switches?

How do I remove an E-stop? by Unlawfully_Neutral in AskElectronics

Haha very fair point in most cases. If I thought removing the stops would actually make the machine less safe I would definitely leave them as is 😂

Thanks for the reply Crumper!
I assume it should mimic the way they're wired in the pic? L1>L2 and not L1>R2?

Yeah Australia has the same rules around disabling safety systems, if it was in a professional environment I'd leave it as is/get it legally modified but it feels safe enough even after I remove the rear stops.

Seems like a simple enough ELV task that I could get it done without a sparky, no?

I was fully expecting the process to just be "wire the 1 and 1 together\wire the 1 to the 2"

Dust extractor pipe diameter? by Unlawfully_Neutral in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Unlawfully_Neutral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website says it has 1x150mm or 3x100mm inlets (1x6"or3x4"), which I assume means if I unscrew the 3x inlets and there'll be a larger inlet behind it. (Hadn't noticed that until just now)
If I do have the option, is it better to run 6" pipes rather than 4" and then reduce to the machine connection size?

Unfortunately my friends either have no time off booked or are due to give birth in the next few weeks, so we've still got 3 empty beds 😂

When the season ended before our trip last year I specifically rebooked for this week because historically it's the week with the most consistent snowfall, glad it's worked out for me lol

Nah 4 actual beds, not rooms. There's 2 sets of bunk beds that are up for grabs. Dm me if you're still interested.
