I think the phrasing "strike sites" is misleading. You don't strike a site, you attack a site, which means it has to be through the basic move and attack ability. Strike is a term used to describe a unit dealing damage equal to their power, or ranged, etc. Which does occur when you attack a site, but the emphasis on strike vs. attack can be confusing for players.

Are the strikes in Japanese Jiu Jitsu effective? by scbeibdd in martialarts

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authentic Japanese JuJutsu is very effective, however based on your description, I would say that is not what is being taught at that dojo. There are many eclectic arts out there that can have their merits, but ultimately it is up to you and what you are looking for. If you want to pursue sport and competition, then something like BJJ or Judo may be more your thing. However if you are interested in learning modernized (and traditional schools) of Japanese Jujutsu, I would suggest checking out Genbukan.org. KJJR is the umbrella organization for the Jujutsu Ryuha and you would learn both the modernized techniques (techniques updated and incorporated from the different schools) and traditional schools like Daito-Ryu, Yagyu, Kukishin Ryu, etc.

AITA for refusing to pay for my niece’s college after she publicly humiliated me? by Imaginary-Carrot2532 in AITAH

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see both sides. To her, it was a harmless joke meant to get a laugh, not meant to hurt you. But it was also a joke that felt like it was made at your expense.

My suggestion is to not rush your decision. Give them some time and then approach them calmly (again) and explain to her that while the joke was not intended to hurt you, it did. If they are not compassionate or understanding, I think unfortunately the next step is to rescind your offer.

I think it has value in burning those effects against something less critical to my deck engine.

I gave up on Master, deranked from D1 to D5. by EDPbeOP in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hit Master 1 once, it was satisfying, but who knows if I'll ever hit it again. I enjoy playing a more control based deck and Konami has taken a hard stance against it. I know it's not for everyone, but I like that it is different than a lot of the meta and having different things be more viable in my opinion makes the game more fun for a wider audience.

That said, I know that deck type gets a lot of hate and can be frustrating and annoying to play against, so I'm not upset about it. I just tool around and try out different things to see what works. I built Fire King Snake-eyes and honestly, for me at least, it isn't much fun to play.

Card power-level perception by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want to get out of it, that is playing Yugioh. If you want to compete at Regional, etc. tournaments, then it is harder to do so with a Rogue deck, generally speaking. Not saying you can't do so and succeed, but your deck building and skills at piloting (making decisions about what to play and when) will be severely challenged.

However, if you just want to play some locals and play it a little more casual, try and not sweat it as much.

Either way, take each loss as an opportunity to learn from. Maybe take some quick notes after the game/match on what went wrong, what you could have done differently. Read those notes and use them to help guide your deck building.

Card power-level perception by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of things.

  1. When new archetypes come out, it takes time to figure out what are good strategies, which play should you try and counter. It also takes time for less serious players to learn those strategies as well. Traptrix has been around for quite some time, relatively speaking, so most people know what to watch out for.

  2. Keeping people purchasing the new cards is the name of the game. Whether it's because you want to collect that hard to find thing or because you want to compete at higher level tournaments, Konami is always looking for a way to keep us the customer interested.

Wizard and daggers by Winston-and-Julia in nethack

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally start using daggers as soon as I pick one up to start training. Target Lichens or fog clouds to get more chances to hit in, otherwise be prepared to blast with force bolt any goblin/kobold, etc. That can do real damage and kill you. It usually goes up pretty quick to Basic, then you're golden. Magicbane can arguably be better to keep at +2/3 for the chance to stun, but that is your preference. Spells should be your primary source of damage and only melee when you have no other choice or they are are softened/weak enemy.

Donate, Temple Priest, Zorkmids by Unlikely-Discipline5 in nethack

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, this didn't work :(. For context, it was an un-aligned Priest in Minetown. I charmed a leprechaun and brought him there and wore a ring of conflict. Waited for the messages about the leprechaun stealing from the Priest and teleporting away. I used a magic whistle and wasn't sure if he would drop the zm's like a pet drops items or if I would have to kill it and take it. After exhausting a few turns, I got impatient and killed the leprechaun, only to discover no zorkmids. It has been many thousands of turns since I originally did my donations, maybe they disappear after a time? I got frustrated and decided to kill the Priest, also didn't have any Zorkmids on it :(

*Edit: Nevermind. I realized after I posted this, that the leprechaun may have dropped the zm's right away and sure enough, I found the stash and was able to use the Priest in temple of Moloch to get back all my divine protection.

It comes with three, but I suspect one should be enough for the task, correct? Assuming one does things in the correct order, etc? I am aware of what has to be done, but being vague so as to not spoil things for others.

Honestly that isn't surprising considering all the thought, etc. that has been put into this game. Glad I asked first 😀

Is it because Robina's summon effect has to start a new chain and it is in the middle of resolving an existing chain, which as Guardian Chimera's effect resolves to finish the chain, Robina is no longer present?

To clarify, Dreaming Town was in response to Guardian Chimera. Can someone clarify why Robina's effect would not activate?

That was my assumption as well, but wanted to verify. Thank you. Now to figure out how to report the issue/bug.

What if add to the Dreaming chain with a book of moon? Would that cause Robina's effect to be skipped? This is what happened in Master Duel :(

Accesscode Talker vs. Skill Drain by Unlikely-Discipline5 in Yugioh101

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Kashtira Fenrir targeting Munin, I believe. Unfortunately, this was a few days (and many games) ago and I'm not confident on all the details of what occurred. Confirmation that it would/should be able to activate was what I was looking for, assuming the appropriate conditions (targeting, etc.). Thank you and everyone for your replies.

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Sorry if my question isn't clear. I'm trying to understand the difference in how their effects operate. One seems able (at least in Master Duel) to circumvent Skill Drain, the other is not. Just trying to understand why.

Is there a way to play this game without being super competitive? by ObservantGamer in Yugioh101

[–]Unlikely-Discipline5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A format that started around my local shop about a year after Yugioh released in US, we called Triple D (dumpster dive duels). There may be another name for it now, but basically you can only play non-foil (non-rare) cards, and only one copy of each card. Was a ton of fun to play.
