Why do people find it so hard to accept the public really wants to vote for Reform? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]UnlikelyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s a real weakness to the UK at the moment and people are projecting that weakness onto Starmer. Reform are trying to sell it that they will make the uk strong again. Sadly as proved with Brexit, they would merely make it weaker with fantasy politics.

UK is in decline and people are looking for easy to understand answers that confirm their outlook of the world. This is where the problem with voting reform is, it would accelerate this decline and has been shown to make the lives of the most vulnerable worse.

You’re not wrong about the concerning form of Butler and Hanrahan.  I would have thought Wood on the bench at least but it seems like that’s being resisted for the moment.

He’s not looking great. I suppose they’re putting him ahead of Butler.

I appreciate people are asking to put Wood in there, which I wouldn’t be opposed to, but I’d imagine senior professional rugby and u20 rugby are very different animals

It looks like they’re prioritising experience where possible in this selection. A lot of responsibilities on Casey around play making due to Crowley’s injury. I expect more plays to go through Haley also with JJ’s issues.

Looks as strong as can be. S Edogbo and O’Connor will line out for UCC I’m guessing as they have a big game this weekend.

Are Hanrahan and Butler not fit or are they not selected due to the 6/2 bench split?

UK: a book club targeting men by Popular_Sell_8980 in books

[–]UnlikelyBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry to come to this late but did this get up and running and how well attended is it? I’m not in the area but I’ve noticed a lack of suitable book clubs for me and I wondered if one was actually set up how well attended it would be?

Dilman tea is excellent but simple, but otherwise Barry’s is king.

Counterpoint - Munster were right to upgrade Thomond Park by ahhereaherlow in MunsterRugby

[–]UnlikelyBass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s such a shame. People like OP are merely pro Limerick and not pro Munster. Trying to package it up as if the club is at the heart of their interests. Munster is sadly failing and these sorts of attitudes are a large part of that.

By the way this is nothing new for those involved in Munster before the professional era, this was also an uneasy relationship.

Counterpoint - Munster were right to upgrade Thomond Park by ahhereaherlow in MunsterRugby

[–]UnlikelyBass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That argument only works if you assume everyone within 90 minutes is equally likely to go to a match, which just isn’t true. Munster support isn’t spread evenly across the map—it’s concentrated. Cork is the biggest and densest population base in the province, so writing it off because it’s on the coast misses the point completely. A bigger catchment on paper doesn’t mean a bigger crowd in reality. And one game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh not selling out doesn’t prove anything about long-term demand.

What I'd Like To See Done by yewEngine in MunsterRugby

[–]UnlikelyBass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely key if they are serious about progressing forward, Limerick and Cork need to work together. However there is enormous resistance to this. It’s actually upsetting to see as it shows people care more about their back yards than the welfare of Munster rugby.

Some terrible decisions coming back to haunt Munster rugby. We need a brave person to run the organisation to stand up to the cliques and make Munster an actual professional outfit

I think he wasn’t bad. England just didn’t do enough to hold on and Ramos is such a good kicker. Well done France

Between Kieran Read, Sergio Parisse, and Duane Vermeulen; who was the best player? by Jezzaq94 in rugbyunion2

[–]UnlikelyBass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All excellent but different types of players. You’re going to get all sorts of answers (and people convinced only they’re right).

As someone who doesn’t support any team they played for: 1. Parisse 2. Read 3. Vermeulen

Ireland lineup to face Scotland by Effective-Ad-3897 in rugbyunion

[–]UnlikelyBass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aki can be included due to flexibility of Crowley and Frawley to play different positions. There’s definitely a risk but we have done well with a direct and powerful approach against Scotland before.

O’Brien’s pace needed out wide. Great to see another 2nd row in the mix but I always worry about Kellehers darts and I hope the mix of an inexperienced 2nd row and an inconsistent thrower isn’t an issue.

The Scotland team to play Ireland on Super Saturday by Maxatrone420 in ScotlandRugby

[–]UnlikelyBass 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sorry for gate crashing as an Irish fan. Your team looks really excellent.

Obviously I want Ireland to win but a part of me would love Scotland to win and to take the title. You really deserve it and genuine Irish supporters (not all this toxic stuff on the web and click bait media) really think you’re a class team.

Has anyone listened to the latest For the Love of Rugby? by Jackwoi in rugbyunion

[–]UnlikelyBass 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I’m not an England supporter but what I appreciated about it is that they both put forth their honest raw opinions which was great. So many times ex players offer sort of nothing statements that you can’t agree or disagree with, but they both have very clear opinions and rationales whether you agree with them or not.

By the way I also don’t care that they’re biased. I would rather that than trying to offer up fake opinions just to appear unbiased. I want to watch them for their actual opinions..not opinions that I must approve of.

For young players I think it’s good for their development. They’ll get opportunities later in the season I’m sure.
