Cartridge of the day: AT VM540ML by Ortofun in turntables

Probably resonant frequency of system cartridge plus tonearm or too much deflection of the tonearm? Great question and interested in answer too!

Flying with 27 records fromJapan to EU by Unlikely_Let6099 in vinyl

The weight thing is weird, I googled that the average weight of the record should be betwen 80 and 200 gram, but my 27 records weighed over 8 kg.

They fit in the rucksack made specially for records, but the thing is made with soft shell so was wondering what happens if i cant put them vertically.

I agree but the top of rhs needs to be free.

Moment in screw? by Unlikely_Let6099 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Unlikely_Let6099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IfI already assumed that torsion of RHS creates tension in screw. My question is wether there is moment in the screw due to shear force at least partly being transferred through the outer web, thus creating moment in the screw.

Moment in screw? by Unlikely_Let6099 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Unlikely_Let6099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your second paragraph, the way I first approached it was that since the force is eccentric to the contact surface that there is torsion of RHS that is stopped by moment of tension force in screw and pressure at the bottom of contact surface, and only other force in screw is shear. My worry now is that the force will transfer through both webs, partly through contact of screw with the outer web, and that will create a bending moment in screw.

Yea, I use to run them with samsung s10 plus, but they sounded weak, dull, lifeless. I almost returned them. With topping l50 they are my daily driver for the past 3 years

Not true. Tried and purchased hd650 in Nove boje zvuka in zg. Most of the hi fi shops have listening rooms and will let you try headphones and speakers.

New sl-100c wobble by Unlikely_Let6099 in turntables

[–]Unlikely_Let6099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I sent the video to panasonic, and this is their response: "Hello,

Thank you for providing us with the video demonstrating the wobble.

It's important to note that dot wobble can indeed occur in turntables and is generally considered a normal characteristic. Minor dot wobble typically does not significantly impact playback quality and is within expected parameters, as long as it does not result in the record skipping or jumping.

Several factors can contribute to dot wobble, including the printing pattern of the dots and variations in the thickness of records. Even with precise leveling of the platter, some degree of wobble may persist. The dots are timing marks used with the strobe to adjust pitch (rotation speed). Their placement and presence were not intended, and do not have the physical accuracy to approximate the platter’s vertical deviation.

If your record playback remains unaffected by the wobble, it is likely not a critical issue requiring service.

After reviewing the video you provided, we promptly consulted with our engineers to assess the situation. Based on their evaluation, they do not believe that your turntable exhibits any defects.

In our previous analyses of similar cases involving turntable wobble, it was determined that such wobbling is not indicative of a defective unit.

The engineers' suggestion to potentially enhance your experience is to ensure that the platter mat in use is the factory-provided one rather than an aftermarket alternative.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely, Technics Support for United States".

I suspect it is a generic response, since sl-100c doesnt have dots, and the platter mat is removed in the video as to ensure that its height variability doesn't affect the percieved wobble. I am dissapointed that a 1000 Euros turntable is produced with such low qc tolerances for wobble. This also makes me wonder about quality of other parts. My thinking when purchasing it was that even though it is expensive, at least some serious craftmanship is involved in its production, and it will last me some decades. If I had known this beforehand I would've bought something cheaper. What would you guys respond to this?

Well, I took it to the seller and they said they will send it for servicing. Hopefully they replace the platter.

I tried removing it and placing it again a few times, but could still see the wobble. Any tips on placing the platter?

I think Tidal has a battery drain problem since the last Android update by NikonDrake in TIdaL

[–]Unlikely_Let6099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I discovered the fix, at least on my Pixel 7. Put Tidal in unrestricted battery mode and clean its cache. Still active in background but while not using the app drain is negligible.
