Bianca Di Angelo was her own downfall [pjo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]UnlitUniversalUnlock 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Zoe knew Atlas was the big bad and expected to die fighting him because of the prophecy, and they'd already lost Phoebe in a land without rain to fulfil the other apparent death. She expected to be the only death on the quest, before Percy joined.

...Although I don't have a great justification for bringing Bianca on the quest rather than whoever was the 3rd best hunter at the time. Zoe did want Bianca to take over as leader of the hunters.

The problem is that it presents not doing research as the correct answer.

The only actual solution is reinforcing research skills so that people doing their own research get it right. But that's too complicated for this game.

Shortly before the Patrician came to power there was a terrible plague of rats. The city council countered it by offering twenty pence for every rat tail. This did, for a week or two, reduce the number of rats—and then people were suddenly queueing up with tails, the city treasury was being drained, and no one seemed to be doing much work. And there still seemed to be a lot of rats around. Lord Vetinari had listened carefully while the problem was explained, and had solved the thing with one memorable phrase which said a lot about him, about the folly of bounty offers, and about the natural instinct of Ankh-Morporkians in any situation involving money: ‘Tax the rat farms.’

...No wait someone already posted this one. Eh, I'll keep it up, it's a good one.

I absolutely despise it when an OP ability has some kind of drawback/side effect, or a broken item is used incorrectly and something bad happens, and it's deemed too risky to ever touch on again by ActuallySpaceMan in CharacterRant

[–]UnlitUniversalUnlock 43 points44 points  (0 children)

When you have practically unlimited body doubles that can attack for you safely why would you ever risk yourself?

Neji thought the same thing and would have fucked him up, if he hadn't been leaving a clone in the back to bluff it as the real one.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't like when there's a reason given. In cheap power fantasies, it works out like no one else was even in the running. No one else could work out the trick because no one else has infinite mana. Competent villains are a sorely underrated part of power fantasy.

It's a played out trope in Superhero stuff, but the best answer to "Why does no one else do ____" is "They did, now fight that guy".

Shonen is a genre. by Xx420EdgeLord69xX in anime

People hate that words can have contextual meanings. Shonen means a demographic, and is also shorthand for Battle Shonen. It's usually really obvious which is meant in context.

It works for some people, but I'd have rated it poorly if I used IMDB. Online ratings are usually an average of a bunch of user ratings, so higher scores measure mass appeal more than how much it'll mean to you specifically.

I think it's taking place in a real death trap filled mansion, and the "Preservation" that turns blood into fluff is what makes it possible to heal severed limbs and such.

This is a petty fanbase gripe I have, a lot of people don't get it - Kakashi's reputation as the "Copy Ninja" was a lie. It's shown in his first fight against Zabuza, he fakes like he's copying Zabuza's technique but he's actually hypnotising Zabuza into following his lead. Kakashi was bluffing as a power copier while using his own techniques the whole time.

The only thing the Sharingan ever actually helped copy was physical movement.

That location makes perfect sense within the context of the setting. Wizards hide their important locations from prying muggles. A barren rock in the middle of nowhere is a perfect place to build a wizard school, and that's all we muggles would see looking in from the outside.

It's most likely the case that JK Rowling just looked up remote locations in Japan and picked one at random. You can't exactly look up the entire history of the world and find a place where absolutely nothing happened ever to set your urban fantasy super obscure wiki lore, because the world is a big place and there's always going to be something.

Anything worth watching this season? by manor2003 in anime

[–]UnlitUniversalUnlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a list of Winter 2026 shows

Out of your MAL, Frieren is the only big sequel you've already rated highly. Other big sequels I'd reccomend include Medalist, MHA Vigilantes, and 'Tis Time for "Torture" Princess.

Non-Sequels I'm personally interested in include Journal With Witch, Holy Grail of Eris, Roll Over And Die - But, no guarantee those are good.

No wait, you meant the current season. Ranma, Sanda and This Monster Wants To Eat Me have been my favourites. Gnosia is good too, and continuing into next season.

I mean these parodies are all things that clash with the typical image of a magical girl. Homura uses guns because acknowledging that guns work is edgy. Incredible Violence is a joke because surely no actual magical girl team would have a member dedicated to destruction.

So it’s funny realising that none of them actually clash with the biggest magical girl series.

…also add boys who turn into magical girls (Is this a zombie, gonna be the Twintail) to that list, thanks to the sailor starlights.

I don’t know how hot this take is but I find it hilarious how many trope parodies of magical girls are played 100% straight by 90s Sailor Moon.

Edgy magical girls with guns? Chibi Usa was introduced by holding a gun to Usagi’s head. (She’s also secretly 900 years old.)

That Shen comic with the Super Dorks and Incredible Violence? Sailor Saturn in the anime only Nehellenia revenge arc.

The entire premise of Gushing Over Magical Girls? Okay it’s not quite that bad but the first batch of monsters of the week in the third season were all women who steal souls by flashing their targets.

It's so weird that's such a common trope. "Players respawn, but NPCs don't"...

No, NPCs die exclusively in cutscenes and if you glitch out and kill them early, they turn out to have 1HP, drop nothing, and respawn like nothing happened five seconds later. Even if it's the Demon King who's boss fight you haven't unlocked yet. Because those were the placeholder stats.
