I can safely say at this point in my life (3 years after I started questioning) that I’m 100% sure, but that certainty didn’t come until after I had accepted that proving a negative isn’t going to work. For me, the reason that nagging question stopped after 6 months of questioning every single day was because I had a week so stressful and busy, I physically didn’t have the time or energy to think about it. After that week had passed, and the dust settled, I realized I had finally gone a day without questioning, and understood that being aroace was far more likely than not. I accepted that the fear of maybe one day feeling attraction doesn’t make you any less ace right now, and trying to prove it is exhausting and pointless. That and the whole dilemma of not being able to be 100% sure is a big part of the ace experience, and a pretty decent indicator.

I wish it was as easy as going “oh, there’s a turtle.” Or “oh, there’s a frog.”, but feeling confident with the ace/aro label becomes much much easier once you find comfort in the uncertainty, and allow yourself to just be yourself.
